Joey Porter Rips Jeff Ireland: Not "What a GM's Supposed To Be"
Porter had already played a season with the Fins before Ireland was brought in as GM in 2008, but after the end of the 2009 season he publicly demanded a trade. Porter didn't buy into the team's leadership then, and he sure doesn't now.
"Jeff Ireland has a big part to do with it," the free agent said.
"I don't think when you come in being recruited by him you really believe the things that's coming out of his mouth. I think he's just a guy that's not trustworthy; he's a guy (who) really doesn't hold up to what a GM's supposed to be," Porter continues. "You'd think he has the right tools to lead that franchise in the right direction, but obviously nobody's buying into it."
"Who wants to go out there and play for a guy that thinks like that?" he asks.
To Porter's credit it seems he saw the writing on the wall long before a lot of us did.
Of course, he's not the only person calling out Ireland today. A couple dozen protestors showed up outside Dolphins HQ today demanding his termination. A quick sampling of the protest signs includes our favorite: "Fireland."
