Miami Dolphins: The Worst Franchise in the NFL

Luther Campbell, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be. In this special edition, Luke laments the epic fall of Miami's storied NFL team.

It is a tragedy what is going on with the Miami Dolphins. One of the most successful franchises in of all sports has become the laughing stock of the NFL. The Dolphins were always cutting edge and ahead of the game when Joe Robbie built the team. It seems like yesterday when Robbie lured Don Shula away from the Baltimore Colts to make the Miami Dolphins matter.

Watching Peyton Manning pass over the Dolphins for Tennessee or Arizona, two cities that don't have Miami's rich history is a disgrace. And the news keeps getting worse. Over the weekend, Matt Flynn, the former Green Bay back-up QB who supposedly had a great relationship with new head coach Joe Philbin, signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

Flynn passed up a chance to play in the sunshine for the rainiest city on earth. The Dolphins gave up their best wide receiver, Brandon Marshall, without making a move to replace his talent. Without a star wide receiver to throw to, how the hell did General Manager Jeff Ireland think he could lure a quarterback of Manning's Hall of Fame caliber here?

It's just another boneheaded personnel move that shows Ireland is not qualified for his job.It seems like no star NFL players want to come play for Miami, where the NBA franchise has no problem convincing Chris Bosh and LeBron James to take pay cuts in order to win a championship. I was on the phone with Warren Sapp for over an hour. He gets paid the big bucks to be an NFL analyst and he can't figure out what the heck is wrong with the Dolphins.

If owner Stephan Ross doesn't fire Ireland soon, he's better off selling the team. Every day Ireland remains in charge, he makes Ross look foolish.

I agree...the Dolphins management blew obtaining one of the best coaches and a top rated QB!They have a chance to get a talented, young QB with team spirit that the Dolphins lack...my money is on Dolphins management blowing this one , too!

quite frankly the problem is not only with the GM, it's the owner duh!  Staff is representative of Management and Management is representative of CEO/Owners.  So it seems as though neither of these guys has a clue nor does anyone in the league respect them as owners or GM.

thank u luther for saying what everyone is thinking but you being more in the press can maybe put the pressure on ross to fire ireland....this is the only way this will happen.....my concern is why are not the former dolphins speaking up against this idiot.....once i heard the question he asked of dez bryant.....i would have fired him on the spot.....thats not what a "football guy" would ask!!gimmie a break

Anybody think that the current roster players are going to buy into this loser outfit now? They are going to do the least possible to stay healthy and collect a paycheck. A rookie unproven coach. A clueless puckered asshole face owner. An the drunk no personality GM. What a winning combination!

Philbin builds through the draft. Look at Green Bay's history of drafting recievers with Philbin. All solid, but no big name recievers, all selected from the 2nd to 4th rounds of the draft. Philbin knows what he's doing. Moore and Tannehil are not bad options, especially for the price. I also love the move to ship out diva Marshall. Philbin said he wants to build with character, hard working football guys and he's backing up his word.

this just in....  GM Ireland overheard in tense negotiations with "presently retired" David Gerrard ( formerly with the Jacksonville Jaguars ).  S.I. now reporting that Dolphins owner Ross, on the advise of Ireland, has just offered the elder quarterback a 2 year - $19 Million Guarantee, along with a prepaid AARP membership, and some free perks like "All you can Eat" at Denny's before 6:00pm.  Latest word however, is that negotiations broke down over just a few key points, and Gerrard would only agree to those terms if both Ireland AND Ross were to "releive themselves of any ownership and/or management of the team.  Rumors suggest Gloria Estefan is considering such terms....

...just reported by Sun Sentinal....; Jeff Ireland repordedly agreed to 7 year contract extension with Dolphins worth well in excess of 22 million.  Latest rumors include Ireland in serious contract talks with Tampa Bay to unload Matt Moore for a 6th round draft pic and "a large tub of Florida Stone Crabs".  In a related story, passers by witnessed Ireland in full pads and Dolphin uniform ( #0) and throwing a few 5-10 yard "ropes" to Finboy the dolphins mascot.

The fins are 15 to 20 years from doing anything. Not even JJ or the Big Tuna could fix this team, they were like see ya I'm out, f this disaster.

The LOL-Phins are a joke. I hope the Hurricanes can ease the pain during the upcoming football season. Even the Marlins manage to be competitive. With Jason Taylor gone the LOL-Phins has lost all respect.

Go Canes!!

And today in sports, a black man somewhere ran with a ball and jumped with a ball and threw a ball and people got really excited as if they hadn't seen it a million times before... ...Next, we'll pretend like we can predict the weather.

The last thing I ever wanted to do was blame. I am a Dolphan 4 life no matter what coach gm player we have or get. I have stood up for them all but one thing I do know is( people buy from people they like). Players are not buying what Jeff Ireland is selling and I have to believe its because they don't like the man. Mr. Ross you may want to give this some thought? Go Dolphins!!

One time for Uncle Luke. Something has to be wrong with the Dolphins and it all points to our GM. Just ask Dan Marino.

THE BEST THING ABOUT THE MIAMI DOLPHINS..... ARE THE MIAMI HEAT! They alleviate the burden of being a Dol-fan... I punched out last season.... after a 0-3 start.... i think i'll save my sundays for the beach and other leisurely activities that do not include watching the sorriest franchise in the NFL. We lost Fisher to the RAMS.... the RAMS.... let that sink in for a minute...Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland should just Murder/Suicide each other and let the rest of Miami be happy.

Haven't you heard that he might instead play for the city of California?

A clueless owner plus a drunk GM equals losses forever and ever. Lets have another party for the Gaytors. That was brilliant!Empty seats at Joe Robbie stadium are going to be very plentiful for the foreseeable future.

Agreed Luke. It is a truly sorry state of affairs. They dump Marshall with no plan to replace him while trying to attract a top QB. The lowest of rank amateurs should know that would hurt them. I guess that's why Ireland missed it. 2012 is over already. Everyone in the division is improved, Miami has taken steps backward from a 6-10 season.
