A lot of kids grow up thinking they're going to land work in something cool like the arts, entertainment, or sports, but most of end up working at, like, insurance agencies, retail management, or the news aggregation departments of the alternative press. Though, if you live in South Florida there is actually a good chance that you've snagged one of those "cool" jobs. Our region ranks sixth in the nation for most jobs in the arts and entertainment sector.

On Number compiled the numbers from 2009 census numbers, the most recent available. The jobs "encompasses everything from museums and theaters to casinos and professional sports teams."

In total, South Florida employs 38,838 people in the sector, and the median income is a healthy but not extravagant $34,500.

So which five metros ranked ahead of us? Unsurprisingly, New York and Los Angeles came in first and second respectively. Chicago came in third and Washington DC was fifth. Surprisingly, Orlando came in fourth overall. We're guessing work at amusement parks is counted in this segment. However, Orlando employees only make $23,800 on average. That's by far the lowest pay of any of the metros in the top ten.
