Stephen Colbert Lampoons Florida's Proposed Minimum Wage Reduction Bill

A new bill is working its way through the Florida senate which would slash the minimum hourly wage guaranteed to restaurant workers from $4.65 an hour to only $2.13 an hour. True, restaurants would still have to guarantee their workers at least $9.98 an hour with tips included, but several workers who now make more than that an hour worry that the bill could still lead to an overall reduction in their wages.

Last night, they got a bit of comic relief from Stephen Colbert who took on the proposed bill in his "The Word' segment.

Senate Bill 2106 has so far passed the commerce and tourism committee with a 5-1 vote and is now headed to the regulated industries committee.
