Trayvon Martin Rally Planned for Sunday at Bayfront Park

Thousands are expected to show up at Bayfront Park this weekend for a planned hometown rally to remember slain 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson is organizing the rally, and Rev. Jesse Jackson and singer Chaka Kahn are scheduled to attend.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and the event will start at 4 p.m. It will end three hours later.

Among the others planning to attend: Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, as well as Miami City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, Rep. Corinne Brown, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), Florida Rep. Cynthia Stafford, Miami-Dade Commissioner Barbara Jordan, singer Betty Wright, and actress JoMarie Payton.

Several smaller gatherings have taken place in Martin's hometown, including several protests and rally at high school, but Sunday's event is shaping up to be the biggest yet.

I commend you Lisalove and finally as a black women to voice your opinion on the facts and not just the black against white card. I agree this is all political and share your views, I'm very sorry this happened because of one lone gunmen. The violence needs to stop.

I'm so tired of this trumped up story. As a black woman, when I saw all the drama surrounding this story, I KNEW it was political and refused to fall for the BS. I mean come on; black kids kill each other every single day and I don't see marching in the street, al Sharpton and his overly processed perm, or Prez O making comments about it.

This is just another tactic to keep people blind to what's really happening: attacks on foreign countries, loss of our civil rights and liberties, FEMA camps, and biological weapons...no, they want you to focus ont Occupy This and random shootings. And each and every time, you fall for it. It's sad what happened here but it happens on the daily and nothing is being done about it. How many kids were shot and killed by their own this year and are now walking the streets. Put your energy and attention in positive directions. The more you focus and "fight" against the negative, you are simply calling more if it.

This case is to DIVIDE the population because it's election time...Hello? Wake Up. It's 2012. Don't you think it's time to concentrate on being a better person, helping your fellow man, and doing what you came to this world to do. We did not come here to be historians or regurgitate the past. If you want to win in life, read stories like this, pray for the family, and pay attention to the REALITY of it. Politics. Watch how it plays out and then, won't you feel silly.

Bill Cosby spoke of this 10 years ago. He asked the African American community to step up. The result, the black community cast him out. Change has to come from within. Do I think Zimmerman is guilty? Absolutely. What about the 12 shot, 2 killed at the funeral home? Not a word. Why?
