Watch Orlando's Old Amway Arena Get Blown Up by 600 Pounds of Dynamite
The arena was opened 23 years ago in 1989 and housed the Orlando Magic until 2010. The team has since moved to its new home, the Amway Center.
The "O-rena" outlived its Miami counterpart, the Miami Arena, by a few years. The Heat's original home opened just a year before, in 1988. The Heat moved to the American Airline Arena in 2000, and after sitting like a big pink elephant for a few years, the Miami Arena was demolished in 2008. Of course, there's video of that here.
The old Miami Arena site sat vacant for a few years but is now a public park -- at least temporarily. Orlando has plans for the site of the O-rena: It will be used for a "creative village" to help lure high-tech jobs to the area.
