Casey Anthony's Lawyer: Trayvon Martin's Family Guilty of "Racial Bigotry"

Categories: News
cheneymasonf.jpg
Cheney Mason, the lawyer who will forever be known as the guy who got Casey Anthony off charges of killing her daughter, has decided to open his mouth about the Trayvon Martin case. His remarks were not only critical of Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey, but also of Trayvon Martin's family. Mason apparently thinks they're spreading racial bigotry.

Police were originally prepared to charge George Zimmerman with manslaughter on the night of Trayvon Martin's murder before a prosecutor decided there wasn't enough evidence. Last night, Corey announced she would be pursuing a harsher second-degree murder charge.

"It's political prostitution," Mason told the Miami Herald. "Now I don't have all the facts -- no one does -- but you look at what we know of the case and it looks like the prosecutor bowed to other pressures."

Of course, Corey's harsher charges may be part of a strategy to get Zimmerman to accept a lower charge during a plea deal, and a jury could end up convicting Zimmerman of lesser charges.

Mason also thinks there's a lot of racial bigotry floating around in this case, but he doesn't think most of it is coming from Zimmerman's family or supporters.

"The fact is there is lots of racial bigotry in this case," Mason said. "And a lot of it is coming from the side of Trayvon Martin's family. I can understand why his family is upset. They lost a child. But they weren't at the crime scene. None of us was."

"None of us was?" Well that grammatical flap was only the second most ignorant thing in that quote.

A lot of the comments here are quite reflective of the racist attitudes I noticed when I was living in Florida. White racism in various forms is quite epidemic in the U.S.

"none of us was" is grammatically correct.. so an ill-educated product of democrat shithead public education wrote the article.

Zimmerman should be free. He is not the first or the last to defend himself. Just happens that he defended his life against a black kid. STOP labeling colors on crimes and we will all get a fair deal

Look, the big man knows how to use his middle finger. What a loser! Casey Anthony is walking free while her baby is dead. Would someone please place his feet in cement underneath a falling boulder?

"None" is singular; "none of us was" is gramatically correct.  Someone needs a journalism refresher.

Rumor has it that Casey is stopping by NV to see OJ for conjugal visits. While they discuss who really killed Nicole and Casey's daughter.

Really stupid especially since Trayvon's mother said she thinks it was an accident.  The racial incident was started by the media with coon comment that we are now finding wasn't true.

Really?
Really?

Where did they get zimmerman was white?  Look at him. You don't have that in Europe.  Seriously.

Furthermore, so far the evidence does not prove its predudice. All GZ did was describe Trayvons behavior to the dispatcher. Once he was asked, he replied his race. So how does that prove he's a racist? Just because he replied back to the questions that were asked to him?

Example: what is he wearing... GZ ANSWERS! Is he black, white, or Hispanic? GZ ANSWERS! Yes he described his outfit, but most importantly he was concerned about his behavior and that's what caught his concern. Listen to the tapes. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not defending him, but I am giving you the right facts so far, NOT OPINIONS.

Let me make this nice and clear. You say you're about Justice and saying blah blah blah about the facts so far and claiming this is a racial profiling by GZ. Okay first off you contradict your statements, and I you wanna claim this is a racist thing then PLEASE enlighten me with the correct evidence so far that justifys your statements.

I think this guy is destined to hell, I personally do not like him for getting a guilty person of a hideous crime free, but his bigotry comment is correct but should not be directed at the parents they are not in their right minds right now and Sharpton and Jessie and the Pansy panthers are causing all the bigotry, They are witting checks the blks cannot cash, they are walking a fine line, whites are just about fed up "There is nothing like a Patient mans fury"

I am a white middle aged female also and I think justice was served by at least getting an arrest and should be a conviction with what I already know in this case just like Casey Anthony should have been convicted! This man needs to shut up and say nothing! He already had his 15 minutes!! I saw an old tape where he says Casey Anthony would likely be charged with murder with what he knew about the case and that was way before he got on the case and had the nerve to condemn Nancy Grace! I guess he is just old and forgot he had made that statement on TV before!! Go away!

Why do baez and mason find it necessary to spout off about every legal case that makes the news?  They complained relentlessly about the prosecution talking to the media in the anthony case, but they did exactly the same and are still doing it.  I just wish they would go away and stay away.  The public doesn't want to hear from attorneys who support child killers.

Mason was brought in on the case because they needed a death penalty qualified lawyer sitting  on the case....why he chose to take on this case is beyond me...he said in an interview that she would spend the rest of her life in prison..then before you knew it,....there he  was big as life  sitting along side the defense team....he like Baez are shoving their 2 cents in...not that many pay any attention to anything they have to say....as for the Trayvon Martin case...i am pleased that they arrested GZ, and let the courts deal with the trial....hopefully they will have 12 jurors that will pay attention and take their civic duty seriously....after all...it will take time to get to trial...but if they were smart, they would work it into the winter months...hate to see them miss their vacations....and deliver a quick verdict....

Warren, you need a grammar refresher. None can be singular OR plural. In this case, it is plural; it is used with "us", which is the objective of "we". However, if you think it is acceptable to say, "We wasn't there...", in your dialect, fine.

OK Jess, I'll explain it to you REAL-SLOW-like. GZ calls 911 and tells the operator there's a guy here who is 'acting weird. Like he's on drugs or somethin'. We already KNOW now he was not on drugs. But OK, maybe GZ felt differently. (But my gut says he was on a mission from the get-go and it would not have mattered what TM's behaviour was like). But GZ never really says anything specific to explain why he FEELS the guy is 'actin' weird'. You know and I know that GZ simply FELT that Trayvon did not belong in the neighborhood. And its not just the TM Supporters (you claim) that see things this way. WHY else would the prosecutor charge him with second degree murder and specifically say GZ PROFILED Trayvon Martin? Now, I know you won't appreciate this but my gut says the real reason she has come down so hard in the charges is because something has been found to back up the idea that GZ profiled TM. With so many eyes on this case she would NOT have over-charged without having a reason for it. I believe, sadly, we are going to find out that GZ was a very disturbed young man. In many other ways he may have been a really great guy-certainly his family and friends feel that way. But in this situation, I am sorry-you can hear it all on the 911 tapes. The thing that really made me lose confidence in GZ's story was his insistence that those screams were him on the 911 tapes. Two audio experts (as I am sure you are aware) have ruled out that it could have been GZ. The FACTS are- the prosecutor sees it like I do anyway- that GZ profiled TM.

What an hysterical, incoherent rant. You are frightening. Concealed weapons permits save people's lives? You haven't got a shred of evidence to support such a lunatic assertion.

Wipe the spittle off your mouth and read up on the trial evidence.

Racist/Bigotry/Racial Profiling/Racial Stereotypes are all the same in my book. I'm white and my boyfriend is black. He has experienced this repeatedly. He's never been arrested or in trouble with the law. If I have never dated a black man or had the pleasure of being around decent black people; I would have never believed it. Seeing it with my own two eyes; it really DOES EXIST and I am appalled. Most people are talking from media, small incidents that occurred with someone they know, or themselves. They are actually less intensified over race, than I came across from my own race. Most of them don't wallow in hate, criticisms, or the bad roles others perceive of them.  ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT BAD, JUST LIKE ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE NOT BAD!

John_Willow

Thomas Jefferson was a man who paid lip service to emancipation while keeping over 200 slaves, who did forced work in his factory and lavish improvements to his home. Here's a Jefferson quote:  "Never yet could I find that a black had uttered a thought above the level of plan narration; never seen any elementary trait of painting or sculpture."

Maybe you should explain to everyone why you call yourself "Jeffersonian527."

John_Willow

In case you didn' t follow the Casey Anthony trial, stupid, the lawyer didn't get her off. A jury didn't find enough evidence against her to convict. Of course you presume that you know more than a group of 12 people who sifted through all the evidence. And "whites are just about fed up"? I'm white, and believe me, you don't speak for me, you creepy bigot.

MikaylaAmanda
MikaylaAmanda

There's nothing more when a black man has nothing to lose. Especially when Centuries, Millenniums, and Decades of hatred has been burdening them by the hands of Whites. We tell them to "get over it," "it was the past." Nicely sweeping it under the rug, but when incidents like this occur, it only stirs up how things have never changed. Bite your tongue Jefferson, because it's going to get you in some serious trouble.

hey jeffersonian, George Zimmerman in my own opinion deserves the death penalty for murdering a kid who was armed with nothing more than iced tea and skittles. And for your information its not a crime to be in possession of candy and iced tea and its should not be a crime to visit your own father in a gated community. I don't care if you are white, i don't care if you are asian, i don't care if you are black, i don't care if you are olive skinned, the point is you shouldn't get shot just because you are minding your own business and at the same time walking home eatting skittles and drinking iced tea. and while you are visiting your own father. also if he walked past George Zimmerman's house the first time, and he was at home at the time, why didn't george shoot him? Why did he wait until he was walking back toward his father's house to shoot him? if he didn't look suspicious the first time what makes him suspicious the second time?

Dont get it twisted !!! Black America is fed up as well . It has never been about white or black its about justice for all equal rights . To be free to go where ever you like and to wear whatever you like, not to be murdered walking back from the store because some racist hot head chooses to stereotype you.

The American Heritage Dictionary notes: "The choice between a singular or plural verb depends on the desired effect. Both options are acceptable in this sentence: None of the conspirators has (or have) been brought to trial." And that is true because the sense of none may be construed here as either "not one" or "not any."The journalist has the right to use the word "none" with either a singular or a plural meaing, depending on the effect the journalist wants to have. In this case, the journalist meant "not one of us was." You're wrong, guest. The plural isn't mandatory.

Why was he not charged originally with murder? Because the evidence did not support a murder charge. He has now been charged due to pressure, not because the evidence changed. I was not there, I do not know what happened, nor do any of us. It is the police's job to decipher the evidence, not the media. I feel for Trayvons family but I do not believe the GZ murder this young man. Why would he have called 911 to begin with? It the job of a neighborhood watch to watch people in the neighborhood. Is it possible that Trayvon did attack GZ because he was following him? This does not mean that TM was doing anything wrong at the time but it doesn't mean that GZ didn't feel threatened. All races commit crime. If TM wasn't from that neighborhood, wasn't that suspicous. Shouldn't the neighborhood watch done something, like calling 911? I believe if there was evidence of murder, GZ would have been arrested that day.

Clearly you haven't read up on the supposed sequence of events that led up to the shooting.

Needlesandpins86
Needlesandpins86

True- He was not charged initially- but this was AGAINST the special investigator's recommendation that he BE charged w/ Manslaughter! Look up the sad history of arrest issues in Sanford. They have had a HISTORY of not prosecuting certain crimes when African Americans have been the victims. This is fact. Also, have you listened to the two women witnesses whose home was right in the exact area where the shooting occurred? (BTW a GRASSY area NOT near a cement sidewalk where GZ said TM bashed his head in) (Yes I know the SP say their statements conflict w/ their recent comments but they would have to say that now wouldn't they- Just like GZ would have to claim self defense). How the 2 women stated the police refused to interview them on what they saw. And the other witness' mother who said that the police interviewing her young son who saw part of the event was LEADING her son to say that GZ was the victim.  And I think you are wrong that he was later charged due to pressure and I believe we will all find out that there is much more to the GZ back story than we all know and it may show a disturbed young man. AND Neighborhood Watch has rules. If GZ took this responsibility for the right reasons he would have followed the rules of the Neighborhood Watch Program. DO NOT CARRY A GUN. DO NOT FOLLOW a suspected perpetrator-its not your job to be the police! Why do the supporters of GZ ignore this issue??? He did NONE of that and Neighborhood Watch (the organization) is distancing itself as far as it can from the actions of GZ. Read up on it. I agree with you that this could have been a case of the Perfect Storm and TM may have reacted to GZ with some sort of an attack. But, it STARTED w/ GZ PROFILING TM. How did GZ know that TM was NOT a guest in the neighborhood? That's the point, he couldn't know so if that's the case he SHOULD have followed NW Rules and Not Carried a gun and NOT followed TM if keeping the community safe was his real goal-call the police and then mind your own business and do NOT let a suspected perp think you are challenging him!  And ever since GZ and his supporters have claimed those screams were GZ's when 2 audio experts have said they could NOT have been, GZ's story has been suspect to me. Why would it not have been to you?

Bruce Edmund Carroll

I have read the sequence of events. its the questions that bothers me of before the events happened.
