In a series that is sure to have Howard Schnellenberger enthusiasts and probably a small handful of others excited, the University of Miami has announced it will play FAU in a three-year series between 2013 and 2016. The series will take the Hurricanes to the recently completed FAU Stadium in Boca Raton in 2015, and bring the Owls to Sun Life Stadium, about an hour down the road, for the other two meetings.

"I'm thrilled to death that FAU and UM are going to face-off on the gridiron," said Schnellenberger a statement. "It is part of the big plan and may develop into a wonderful addition to south Florida football."

Schnellenberger coached the Hurricanes to their first national title in 1983, and started FAU's program in 2001. The 2011 season was the coach's last.

For Miami, the series will basically be a nice set of gimme games. For FAU, however the chance to regularly meet one of Florida's big three teams is a big boon for helping to generate excitement about the program.

The year 2013 will see the 'Canes take on four separate Florida schools. There's the annual match against FSU (which isn't scheduled for certain, but will probably happen), the finale in the series against USF, and a rare home game against the Florida Gators.
