Only 36 Percent of Americans View Miami Favorably; 33 Percent Just Don't Like Us

Miami's polling numbers are almost as bad as Gov. Rick Scott's.

Public Policy Polling decided to ask Americans whether they view 21 prominent American cities favorably or unfavorably, and Miami didn't do too well. Only 36 percent of Americans view Miami favorably, compared to 33 percent who view the city unfavorably.

Miami tends to be more popular among women, Democrats, liberals, Hispanics, and African-Americans.

Of the 21 cities asked about, Miami came in a dismal 17th place in terms of favorability. We only beat out Los Angeles, Cleveland, Detroit, and last place Oakland. Seattle topped the list followed by Portland (apparently weather didn't shift respondents views that much). Along with Boston and Atlanta, those Northwestern cities were among only four to have a favorable percentage above 50 percent.

Considering our local politics, you'd be surprised which groups likes Miami most. Forty-eight percent of Americans who view themselves as "very liberal" like Miami. That's higher than any other group. Then again, liberals seem to like pretty much every city more than their conservative peers. Only 27 percent of people who described themselves as "very conservative' view Miami in a favorable light. Forty percent of that same group views it unfavorably.

In a similar view, 42 percent of Democrats like Miami compared to just 33 percent of Republicans.

Thirty-eight percent of women like Miami compared to just 34 percent of men.

Hispanics seem to have the strongest feelings about Miami. Forty-three percent view Miami favorably (the same percentage of African Americans), but 36 percent view it unfavorably (higher than any other ethnic group). White folk are evenly split on Miami. Thirty-four percent like it and 34 percent don't.

Despite being one of America's most Hispanic cities and the unofficial "Capital of Latin America," those numbers aren't even particularly high compared to how Hispanics view other cities. Hispanics actually like San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Portland and Phoenix more. Yes, even Phoenix, Arizona, is more popular among Hispanics.

Imagine. Miami has the most corrupt elected officials in the country. They voted to give over $3 BILLION to that lowlife whiner Jeffrey Loria.

Miami is a difficult city to make it in, as a result I understand why some of the hacks on this thread couldn't cut it here and decided to move to dumps like Portland and Seattle. As far as Im concerned this is the greatest city on the planet. Dont blame this piece of paradise for your own short-comings and inability to survive here. Rather than blame Miami for your inability to secure employment here maybe you should all take a long hard look in the mirror and realize that your limited educations and feeble excuses for brains are the real reasons why. As far as corruption is concerned, the fact that people point out corruption in Miami versus other cities only solidifies my belief that the Miami haters have the intellect of a boulder. Corruption and politics go hand in hand, this is a reality you all will have to accept at one point. Believe me when I say this, we are happy you got the hell out of here too. Good riddance.

ACCOUNTABILITY!!!! Read what people write. Our residents are so stupid that they can't even write. I am not talking about the immigrants! If the residents here can't write, how can they be acceptable people? How can they be smart enough to vote properly? How can they allow a stadium to be built the way it was? If you can't write, odds are you lack in many other areas. No wonder Miami is a shit hole. You take the blue water away and Miami offers next to nothing. SO HAPPY I LEFT!

Miami has elected officials who are so corrupt or stupid or both they vote to divert over $3 BILLION to a privately owned company AND the corrupt pols vote to put LED billboards on every square inch of highway.

No wonder people hate Miami.

No surprise. But as a Cuban-American with the emphasis on the American, I can assure you, the negative sentiment crosses ethnic lines. This is an overcrowded town, with few jobs, absurd/for sale zoning laws, heavy crime etc. A lousy place for raising children, unless you want to raise them with a confused identity, a crappy place for retirees and an over-hyped town with third world corruption and fascist politics to boot. What can I say. This why so many of those who were born or grew up here, even as fisrt time immigrants, have also left.

About the only thing you said and I can agree with is Politics & Corruption go hand in hand.  That is how this country (Miami included) has gotten where it is right now.  The error in your (and many other persons) thought process is in believing that we "the silent, taxpaying, working, average income, High School educated, never been arrested, citizens" have to "learn to live with it".  In a word "NOT"!!!!!!

I too was born here, went to school here, and made my career here, in short I loved living here.  But as all things in life it has changed and in my humble opinnion, not for the better.  The corruption has permeated every level of local government, not all are corrupt, but unfortunately the ones in control of the process are and that pretty much squashes the chances of anyone inclined to fight city hall or the management to do the right thing.

As for what you so aptly say "Get The Hell Out Of Here & Good Ridance" I say it can't happen soon enough. I will be one of the ones heading out of here soon, I have had enough and can't afford to stay.

You and Norman Brahman enjoy the "New & Improved Miami", the best that corrupt money can buy.  Please make sure you post when Norm invites you and your famiy over for dinner at his place (as a guest not as the wait staff!!!)

I have to agree with Tom but, at the same time I must say I love Miami as it's my home where I was born born and raised. On the playground is where I spent most of my days. Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin' some b-ball outside of the school. When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared. And said you're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air...

Yes, it was a nice town before the Cuban invasion and now it sucks.   Even Hispanics don't want to be around  too  many other  Hispanics.   This has nothing to do with being Xenophobic as Tom has pointed out.  The third world has been imported here.

Thats because most hispanics are racist, especially against other hispanics. anybody that says oh Miami is like a third world country actually means, 'heavens to murgatroyd! white minority?!'
