11-Year-Old Girl Electrocuted to Death in Orlando Putt-Putt Golf Course Pond

Categories: WTF Florida
An 11-year-old girl visiting from New York died on Wednesday in Orlando after being electrocuted while trying to fetch a ball from a pond at a resort's putt-putt golf course.

Ashton Jojo was visiting Orange Lake Resort, just a few miles west of the Disney World parks, with her family from Latham, New York. She was golfing on the resort's put-put golf course when the ball landed in a two-foot deep lake and she went to retrieve it.

According to the New York Daily News, the girl was electrocuted in the pond.

Another visitor heard the girl's screams and tried to retrieve her, but was also injured in the incident. A third visitor was also injured. Jojo was taken to Celebration Hospital, and later died. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as electrocution.

Authorities, however, aren't sure what caused the electrocution in the first place.

An owner of a time share at the resort, and the grandmother of a girl Jojo had meet on vacation and was golfing with, tells NBC News that she was told by staffers that it's possible electricity to a metal fountain in the pond may have shorted out.

"Orange Lake Resort holds the safety and well-being of our guests and employees as our top priority and concern," a resort spokeswoman said in a statement. "The miniature golf facility where the incident happened is closed and will not re-open until further notice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests, their families and friends during this time."

This tragedy seems to have been caused by Contact Voltage. SO many people and pets have been injured or killed over the years due to contact voltage, it's unfortunate that more people are not aware of it. Our hours of research and activism are not enough. There is so much we can do to help the family but it has to start with education. Do your part by learning more about Contact Voltage and what we can all do to help.

Dude, dude, dude...you can't be electrocuted to death, strangled to death or drowned to death.

This tragic story and faulty cable definitely sounds like the silent killer Contact Voltage. Unfortunately, dozens of humans and animals have been killed by electrocution from contact voltage, which results from faulty or damaged underground electrical wiring. Our organization's (CVIC) mission is to educate the public, elected officials, and (most importantly) utility companies about this so that tragedies like this one are prevented. You can learn more about the issue and how to help by visiting our site www.CVICFacts.org or signing our national petition aiming to contact voltage testing laws at http://www.change.org/petitions/pass-laws-to-protect-people-pets-from-deadly-contact-voltage
