Miami Police Tasered Naked, Knife-Wielding Man Along Biscayne Boulevard

We got this photo from a reader of a naked, knife-wielding dude along Biscayne.

About three weeks before Rudy Eugene took off all his clothes and chewed off Ronald Poppo's face, Miami Police had to subdue another naked man who went crazy in the Upper Eastside. Luckily, Andre Patterson didn't seriously hurt anyone and didn't end up dead.

The incident occurred on the morning of May 10 when Patterson got into an altercation with his lover, Xerange Maurice, while they were staying in a room at the Camelot Hotel at 7126 Biscayne Blvd. According to the arrest report, the motel manager heard a ruckus coming from their room and went inside to inspect what the heck was going on.

The manager, whose name is not listed on the report, told police that Patterson was beating Maurice. Patterson stopped, but as soon as the manager left, he began assaulting Maurice again. When the manager went into the room a second time, Patterson threw a bottle of liquor against the wall and then pushed his way past the motel attendant. He got into his car and tried to leave the motel. But before he could make it out of the lot, he crashed into four parked cars and a metal fence.

Here's what police were dealing with.

Patterson, with a knife in his hand, ran next door to Moonchine Restaurant where he broke a glass shelf and three bottles of tequila, whiskey and vodka. Then he ran back outside and started banging on the hoods and roofs of cars idling on the boulevard. Patterson's rampage came to an end when a Miami-Dade Police officer passing by the scene Tasered him. Patterson refused to provide his address and his phone number to police.

Maurice told the cops that Patterson had been snoring cocaine and popping Ecstasy (a drug known for making people empathetic and lovey-dubby, not violent). He also claimed Patterson was on "Marley." Although the police report did not explain what type of substance that is.

We tried to call Maurice on the phone number listed on the police report, but it was disconnected. Patterson was arrested on four misdemeanor charges of simple battery, criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident, and indecent exposure. He's been arrested multiple times, mostly for misdemeanors involving public intoxication, battery, and disorderly conduct.

Here's the police report:

If animals have taught me anything, it's that you can easily die and very quickly under a bus and on the side of the road.

Drove by this morning, Camelot Hotel now has a sign up calling it 'Hotel MiMo'.   Hopefully they cleanup and don't tarnish the MiMo name.

Definitely not 'snoring' on cocaine! The Camelot is one of the last holdouts that police are trying to shutdown.   Basically once you have enough warnings over incidents like this, you can legally be closed down, I believe it's called nuisance abatement.   There are a ton of great restaurants within 2 blocks of this place and it's unfair to them to deal with one asshole running a crack hotel.   If I were one of those business owners trying to survive, I'd deal with that motel in one way or another. And this is nothing new, here's a 1995 article on the hotel: http://www.miaminewtimes.com/content/printVersion/235763/
