Rudy Eugene Smoked Pot Before Face-Eating Attack, Other Drugs Won't Be Known For Weeks

Despite all the hubbub floating around about bath salts, so far a preliminary toxicology report has only found marijuana in Rudy Eugene's system. That doesn't mean that Eugene, who ate a man's face near the MacArthur Causeway over Memorial Day weekend, hadn't used other substances. The full toxicology report will not be completed for another few weeks.
The reports comes from CBS Miami's Jim DeFede who spoke to an anonymous senior law enforcement official.

The preliminary toxicology test carried out as part of the autopsy reveled that Eugene had smoked pot shortly before the attack. Though, marijuana likely is not responsible for turning him into a man capable of chewing another's face off. It will now be at least two months until the full lab work is completed.

Police also found five empty, but recently purchased, bottles of water in the car Eugene left on South Beach before walking over the causeway.

"People who take Ecstasy often crave water," writes DeFede in a throw away theory. Ecstasy use is actually associated with a reduction of aggression, but an overdose on the drug or taking pills cut with other drugs could lead to other outcomes.

Of other note, police also believe that Eugene had been carrying a Bible, as one was found near his body. Though, a Koran was found in his car.

THC-COOH (metabolised THC) can be in your system for 30+ days. How the hell do you know he smoked before the attack? You don't. Terrible article.

The article was just pointing out that MJ was found in his system, it also said that it doesn't cause this kind of behavior.. I don't think they are trying to suggest it did.. they are simply stating the facts.. it was found in his system.. along with unknown undigested pills.. those pills COULD be ecstasy.. he could have had more previously that were digested and caused water cravings.. then he popped some more to push a little higher.. Or..... bath salts.. personally he seems to have the symptoms of OD'ing on bath salts from everything I've read... so I'll wait for the full results.

You're obviously talking about standard drug screening which is designed to detect the most commonly abused substances and isn't design to detect things like Bath Salts.. a toxicology screen WILL detect it.

What would make you think bath salts would not show up in a toxicology report?  Is this what one of your pothead friends told you?  GC/MS and/or LC/MS/MS equipment will discover any and all compounds in a specimen.  I'm all for drug legalization, but I hear way more pot smokers spewing misinformation than I do users of other drugs.  Just an observation.  I've met many responsible people, along with many irresponsible people that smoke weed.  Some are helpful and contribute to society, some are worthless leaches.  I've also met many responsible and irresponsible people that use other drugs.  Just cause you haven't met any responsible users of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, bath salts, etc. doesn't mean they don't exist.

My thoughts exactly. Although I should have known better after reading a Reader's Digest article in the 70's about people doing cracked out things because of weed smoking - like the dude who flew his plane into a mountain screaming, "I have no friends, only acquaintances" or the one who said, "I smoked maryjuwana and it made me want to rape & kill". I mean seriously no one would do something like this just from weed.

you guys are so far behind on this story... it has been confirmed he was on "bath salts" which is much worse than meth and cocaine mixed together...

That's what happens when you take a lot of acid, dude.

So....sorry but this is not a Zimmerman/Trayvon story. This is something different. Please don't mix two very ugly stories together.

Really? Point me to any scientific study that shows MJ increases the likelihood of schizophrenia by 1000%. Unless you made a typo, there is no such thing as 1000%! You can't go over 100% on anything! The craziness here is that bath salts is legal, a substance that drives you insane, but MJ, a mostly harmless substance is illegal. I don't get it.

I've just checked all over again.. even stories from today where poppo's latest pictures after graft surgeries have been done are saying that they won't know for weeks if Bath Salts are the culprit or not.. we only know the preliminary results and the only thing that found was Marijuana so far combined with the autopsy results that found unidentified and undigested pills.. they don't even know what those are yet either.. They did say they found no evidence of bath salts yet.. but they probably wouldn't since it would no likely already have been absorbed into his bloodstream.. so we won't know for a few weeks.. I still suspect they WILL find evidence of it.. but you posted 4 days ago saying it was confirmed... it's not ...

Where was that confirmed? I've been checking the news all over before I came.. I came here searching for toxicology reports.. they said it would take a few more weeks.. all I've been able to find are the preliminary results in which they said it would be a few more weeks for full results.. the preliminary didn't find bath salts yet
