Chad Ochocinco Is Now Chad Johnson Once Again
![]() |
As a nod to his apparently existing Hispanic fan base, Johnson began using the nickname (the Spanish word for his jersey number, 85) in 2006. He wore a decal over his jersey when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006 and was promptly fined $5,000 for it. He legally changed his name in 2008, and it officially appeared on his jersey in the 2009 season.
However, Johnson is now married to Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada, and he decided to save her from being known as Evelyn Ochocinco. He announced his plans to change his name shortly after signing with the Dolphins and shortly before wedding Lozada.
Today he made an appearance in a Broward County court and had it legally changed back to Chad Javon Johnson. Hopefully, though, he'll keep Ochocinco as a nickname.
