Chad Ochocinco Is Now Chad Johnson Once Again

Sadly, the words Chad Ochocinco will never appear on a Dolphins jersey. That's because the wide receiver has changed his moniker back to his birth name, Chad Johnson. It's fitting, we guess, because he'll be playing his first professional season in his hometown of Miami. Yet we're somewhat disappointed -- the name Ochocinco, much like Miami itself, was a bit insane and had Latin flair.

As a nod to his apparently existing Hispanic fan base, Johnson began using the nickname (the Spanish word for his jersey number, 85) in 2006. He wore a decal over his jersey when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006 and was promptly fined $5,000 for it. He legally changed his name in 2008, and it officially appeared on his jersey in the 2009 season.

However, Johnson is now married to Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada, and he decided to save her from being known as Evelyn Ochocinco. He announced his plans to change his name shortly after signing with the Dolphins and shortly before wedding Lozada.

Today he made an appearance in a Broward County court and had it legally changed back to Chad Javon Johnson. Hopefully, though, he'll keep Ochocinco as a nickname.

: I don't get it. What's the significance of the name change?

Kunta Kinte: "Kunta... Kunta Kinte." Fiddler: "Naw, that's your African name. Massah give you a new name. Massah say you name... Toby."
