Proving that thieves in Miami will steal just about anything if given the chance, two suspects stole 500 canaries from the home of an 87-year-old man. Yes, those tiny, chirping little pet birds.

The incident happened May 26. Two suspects broke into the man's house in the 11900 block of SW 47th Street and took the birds. The man had been keeping pet canaries for about 20 years.

Canaries can be sold for about $20 to $30 apiece at pet shops, so yeah, that's about $15,000 worth of canaries. The two suspects then went to at least three pet stores -- including Animal Pet Shop, Roberts Pet Shop, and Pet Lover Supply -- and sold the birds.

Police were able to recover about 150 of the 500 birds, but one of the pet shop owners said he had already sold all of the birds.

However, police were able to get surveillance video of the men selling the birds and are asking the public to help identify them.

The suspects left the pet shop in a black BMW X5.
