Kind of like the last-place finisher in a footrace between a tortoise, a sloth, a three-legged pug and a snail, David Garrard is officially the loser in this season's Dolphins QB contest. According to multiple sources, including Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, Garrard will be officially released by the team today.

That leaves the Dolphins with the QB stable of starter Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, and something called a Pat Devlin.

Garrard appeared to be at times the front-runner in the job to take over starting duties, but that job was officially handed to rookie Tannehill.

>The decision could be, at least in part, a matter of dollars and cents. The team would have owed Garrard a guaranteed $2.25 million if they kept him on the team past September 9.

Moore will make $2.75 million, but is younger and healthier than Garrard.
