Florida Teen Called 911 to Report That His Dreams Were Real After Smoking Synthetic Marijuana
It sounds like the beginning of a reality-bending sci-fi movie, but it was actually the beginning of a kid who smoked too much synthetic marijuana pissing off police.
According to a Volusia County Sheriff's Office release, Welch smoked K2, a type of synthetic marijuana, on Sunday and took a nap. When he awoke, he was convinced that everything in his dream was coming true. He tried to tell his family about it, but they obviously didn't believe him. So instead he called 911.
"What did you dream about that's happening?" the dispatcher asked.
"It's all on paper," Welch replied. "I wrote it down."
A deputy was dispatched and determined that Welch seemed out of it but didn't need medical attention. He told Welch not to call 911 again, and his parents hid the kid's phone.
Welch, however, still felt the need to report his dreams to 911. So he went to a neighbor's house to call again, about 40 minutes later.
"The officer told me not to call back," Welch told 911. "And he said if I called back, then y'all were going to take me to court. So I'm calling back.
"I have to prove something to my family," he continued. "So can you send an officer back?"
Welch's dreams may not have been coming true, but his 911 call prediction did.
The same officer returned and promptly arrested Welch for misuse of the 911 system.
