@NICHO and @CRAIG A cyclist inconveniences you like what 5-30 seconds to pass around them. Plus, a barrier will keep them out of your way. I have to ride my bike because I can't afford a car. Trust me you in you car will get everywhere faster and safer than I ever will.

The responses here are encouraging to say the least ... which could be useful should this ever come down to having to put up a fight over this.

No, that road should be free to bicyclists. I think it's absurd that a barrier be even discussed. We have 2 fatalities that fall within what one would expect for traffic fatalities for bicyclists. Considering one was because the motorist was partying all night and hit the cyclist, that was wrong place at the wrong time for a drunk driver. The other fatality, 2 cyclists riding in the dark, motorist failed to maintain the designated road lane. What were the real factors, motorist fatigue, motorist stupidity, motorist poor night vision, motorist just is a lousy driver. Notice the trend here, poor motorist driving habits. Well hold them accountable and responsible when all it is a traffic violation and not a fatality. Maybe you get them off the road with a suspended DL ? Then again, that doesn't seem to stop anyone these days ? So again, even the 2nd fatality is an unavoidable tragedy. How much do these barriers cost ? Because at worst they should be bought and paid for to implement, rather than a source of eternal revenue. I really think the situation blowing up like this to a point of making demands, hey you wanted it, you got it.

We should be encouraging cycling for health, transportation and environmental reasons. All this would do is discourage it.  Also, cyclists impart way less stress on the road then cars and trucks do. So why should the toll be equal? And if bicycles are to be treated as vehicles, they can to a point. Bikes are not cars. One is human powered and one is gasoline powered and they need to be treated accordingly.

Pretty soon there will be a toll/fee to walk on sidewalks - sheesh

As someone who lives in KB and drives in and out every day, rain or shine (yes, bikers dont usually ride in the rain) why would we the residents be penalized for outsiders who come to enjoy the resources the Key offers? When families come to the beach in their cars, they have to pay... twice; the toll and then the park fees. So why are bikers (sorry, cyclists... bikers have real bikes), who are supposed to abide by the traffic laws, as mm2kay stated, are to be exempt? The last accident on the causeway about three or four weeks ago in front of the Rusty Pellican, which by the way, didn't get much media coverage, guess who was to blame? That's right, the biker. Not a drunk driver, not someone texting, not someone speeding... just someone who happened to be in the way of an all-mighty douche cyclist and HIS right-of-way.

You're not going to qualify for "Le Tour" by going over the less than half mile hill climb that is the William Powell, and then riding the rest of your route on flat land... get over it. You dont need to ride on Belleton when there isn't an organized race. You want to do that, go rent the Homestead Motor Speedway... they need the revenue too.

Learn how to Kayak or pay the toll... and obey the law like the rest of us have to in order to protect ourselves from the spandex-clad likes of you.
