MDC Student Who Threatened to Kill Obama Says It Was "Funny," Helped His Music Career

Remember Joaquin Amador Serrapio Jr.? He's the Miami Dade College student and bar band rocker who got arrested after threatening to kill the president in a series of texts and social media updates. Serrapio pleaded guilty and managed to escape jail time. He is now back and enrolled at classes at MDC, where he spoke with the student newspaper and called the whole incident "funny" and claimed that it's helped his music career.

"It wasn't funny to everyone in my family," Serrapio told The Reporter. "But it was pretty funny to me and my friends."

Haha, right. Nothing screams hilariousness likes writing, "gonna put a bullet through his head." Murder is like one of the funniest things ever, right? Especially murdering democratically elected officials. Hold on as I pick myself off of the floor after falling over in a bout of uncontrollable laughter.

Serrapio performs under the stage name of "Jay Valor" in the J. Valor Band, a local bar band, and says that all the controversy has been good for his music career.

"A lot of good has come out of this, even for my music," he said. "The same week I got out of jail, which was February 27, I had a show that Saturday and a lot of people showed up to see the kid who threatened to kill the president."

Interestingly, as part of his sentence, Serrapio was supposed to educate high school and college students on the dangers of misusing social media.

"I hope young people understand words are not just words anymore," reads a column submitted by Serrapio to The Reporter under his name in the very same issue. "If anyone can learn a lesson from my experience, I hope they understand they should not use social media to post negative comments, threatening words, or compromising pictures. In today's world, posts are available for the world to see and your words and/or your pictures will follow you for the rest of your life."

Right. So kids, do not misuse social media ... unless you want people to come see your bar band and find you hilarious, according to Serrapio.
