Coral Gables, Pinecrest Now Home To One Of America's Most Expensive ZIP Codes

Ever spend your weekend biking around Coral Gables and Pinecrest, looking longingly at those stately old houses under shady mango trees and thinking to yourself, "Man, I could definitely live here"? Well, no, you can't. Not unless you've recently become an international arms baron or sold your shares in Facebook, at least.

As Miami-wide housing prices finally swing back up, a ZIP code that includes Coral Gables and Pinecrest comes in as the 15th priciest hood in the whole country on Forbes newest "Most Expensive ZIP Codes" list.

According to Forbes analysis, the median home price in the 33156 ZIP is now $3.4 million. That's a huge jump for the neighborhood, which didn't even make the top 100 in Forbes' list last October, which had Fisher Island as Dade's most expensive locale.

Fisher Island does stay on the list this year, dropping a few spots to the nation's 39th most expensive ZIP; another ZIP that includes the Gables, 33143, came in at 34th on the list.

The neighborhood's skyrocketing property costs reflect a real bump in Miami's property prices after a long decline.

A new report from FNC's Residential Price Index finds that Miami's market have increased by 6.7 percent in the past year, the Miami Herald reports. That's the fourth biggest jump in the nation, behind only Phoenix, Detroit and Denver.

Welcome back, housing bubble! We've missed you dearly around here.

parallac88 is right!!!!  I stand corrected.  Although how the F can a zip code be split up for an article titled, "America's Most Expensive Zip Codes."  Forbes is idiotic.

You're ALL wrong!!! ITS COCOPLUM! 33156 - which actually splits between Coral Gables (Cocoplum and Gables by the Sea) and Pinecrest is listed twice on the Forbes list. The 33156 part in Coral Gables is ranked 15th but the 33156 portion in Pinecrest (which is like 90% of the zip code area) is ranked 192nd!!

Check out the ranking here:

So to the end the debate only the 33156 part in coral gables aka COCOPLUM is the priciest/ritziest part of Miami.

you sound like you took one sociology class at mdc you got a C on and feel qualified to offer social commentary. lower class wouldn't be lower class if they could afford to live in coral gables or pinecrest.

Kind of funny that the picture used in the article (the Biltmore Hotel) is actually located in the 33134 area code

Hey Miami New Times, 33156 is predominantly located in the Village of Pinecrest and not Coral Gables! You should fix your post.

Coral Gables is a piece a trash that practices segregation by the use of classism, hiking their prices up to keep lower class people out.

And, your picture for this story isn't even in 33156!

I live in 33156 but I don't live in Coral Gables.  In fact the majority of the 33156 isn't Coral Gables but is in fact the People's Republic of Pinecrest.

Do your research.
