This week saw the latest rumors circulating about the health of Fidel Castro, and the Cuban government remained suspiciously quiet. Though, now Fidel's son Alex Castro has broken the silence and says that his father is doing "well."

From The AP:
"The Comandante is well, going about his daily life, reading, doing his exercises," Alex Castro was quoted as saying by Arlin Alberty Loforte, a reporter for the Venceremos weekly newspaper in the eastern city of Guantanamo.
The younger Castro made the remarks at a gallery that was displaying his photographs of his father.

The fact that Fidel Castro didn't offer a public display of congratulations to Hugo Chavez for winning reelection in Venezuela set off rumors that the retired dictator was ailing.

Images of Castro haven't emerged since late March when he met with the Pope. His column, "Reflection of Fidel," has not been published since June. Before that he had published a rapid fire succession of columns, most of which were considered rather bizarre.

Rumors had ranged from those of Castor's death to inferences that he was suffering dementia or was on life support.
