LeBron James on Lakers Rumor: "I Don't Know Where it Came From"

Categories: Sports
Yesterday, ESPN ran a weird little piece of speculative fan fiction imagining the possibility of LeBron James ditching the Heat in 2014 to replace Kobe Bryant on the Lakers. It was a piece designed to cause controversy, more than, you know, report actual facts.

Well, James himself has now weighed in on the rumors and dismissed them.

"That story, I don't know where it came from, but I understand why it came up because of who I am -- it's going to happen," James said yesterday after the Heat's first home preseason game according to, well, ESPN. "But I'm not going to worry about it. I've got to continue to stay focused with these guys and make sure we're ready for any challenges that come."

"Guys are making stories every day," he continued. "It doesn't matter to me. I'm true to my teammates. I'm here and this is what it's all about -- us building and trying to get better as a team. Anyone can write a story. If you have ESPN, then it becomes credible. So do what you've got to do."

Of course, those of us in the median usually hate hearing public figures complaining about the press.

But then there are stories like this ESPN piece where we think, "Well, yeah, we'd probably complain about the media too if we were LeBron."
