Obama Will Lose The Election If African-Americans Don't Turn Out to Vote

Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke calls on African-American voters to revive the record-breaking movement that got the first black president elected four years ago.

In 2008, African-Americans clinched the White House for Barack Obama by turning out to vote in record numbers. In that year's U.S. presidential election, about 2 million more black voters went to the polls than in 2004, helping it become the most racially and ethnically diverse election in U.S. history, according to a 2009 study by the Pew Research Center. But in 2010, we regressed.

Many blacks stayed home, especially in Florida, where Gov. Rick Scott narrowly beat Democrat Alex Sink. We also failed to make Kendrick Meek the first African-American U.S. senator from Florida. Only an estimated 10 percent of blacks went to the polls, compared to 13 percent in 2008.

By not voting two years ago, we allowed Scott and the Republican Party to make it even harder for us to vote on November 6. Since he took office, the governor has been doing everything in his power to disenfranchise African-American voters. He's screwed us over by cutting back on the days for early voting and rolling back voting rights for people with past criminal convictions -- two measures that unfairly target blacks.

Because of Scott's black-voter-suppression efforts, Obama is turning to absentee ballots, the voting system plagued by fraud the GOP has mastered for decades. The Democrats have cut the Republicans' absentee ballot advantage by two-thirds compared to 2008, according to the Miami Herald. This year, absentee voting should be nearly equal.

But African-Americans can't sit back now. Florida is the most important swing state, and Miami has its largest black population. Obama's reelection will likely be decided on the streets of Overtown, Liberty City, Brownsville, and Miami Gardens.

We also have a couple of important local issues on the ballot, like approving a $1.2 billion bond to renovate decrepit public schools. And we got to give the heave-ho to County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, who hasn't done anything for her black district except allow affordable housing developer Carlisle Development Group to take over residential neighborhoods with unwanted high-rise apartments.

Cast your ballot for Keon Hardemon, a 29-year-old University of Miami law school educated public defender who is not beholden to any special interests.

We demand a lot of respect and equality. For that to happen, we need to show up at the polls. We can't sit on our asses complaining about how unfair the system is. If we don't vote, then we can't whine about the damage Mitt Romney will do if he beats Obama November 6. It's time to stop bitching about the white man doing this and that to us.

It's time African-Americans do something for themselves. It's time we break 2008's presidential election record.

So let me understand what this article is all about. If more blacks in the Miami area vote, Obama will have a better chance of getting re-elected. So you are assuming that black people will automatically vote for Obama. This mind set is so unfortunate. I keep thinking about the pins that were being passed out at the Democratic convention. On the pins it stated: "If you vote black, you'll never go back".  This is what our country has come too...I am white and my wife is black. Her 20 year old daughter is voting in her first presidential election. She is not voting skin color...

Business proposition? He's a business man and a damn successful one for that. All you lazy's who want to sit around drinking kool-aid and eating pork rinds are about to find yourself getting a job because things are about to change.

Blacks want Obama in because dey want a brotha in office. Who cares about color, this guy is wrecking our country. If you're bright enough to see past the color you'll realize.

Makes me want to burn my 2 live crew records.  Obama is a tool, and you are a fool for supporting that tool.   I nicknamed him Black Bush.  As he has spent our money down the toilet just like his predecessor Bush.  I was for Ron Paul, but I am casting my vote for Romney out in protest.  My cigarettes, groceries, fuel, healthcare all have gone up.  My choice of light bulbs have been taken away from me.  Time to fire Black Bush Obama!

Obama has done absolutely nothing for this country. I am a  woman who will be voting for Romney because the color of the Presidents skin has absolutely nothing to do with the issues at hand. All I hear is that Romney is rich and does not care about the poor people. Well Obama is rich too and he does not care about the poor either. He does not even care about his own family. The rich are still going to be rich and the poor are still going to be poor. You really have to think about this. If rich people were not around, who would sign your paycheck??????? They are vital for this country, period. I am part of the lower middle class and I am struggling daily. We are barely making ends meet but I sure as hell do not run to the government and ask for a free handout. That is what is wrong with America. I know a family of four who brags because they get $668 a month in food stamps. Who needs that much? My family of four spends about $100 cash each week on groceries and toiletries and we are just fine. Obamacare is another issue. The company I work for has told us that it will be cheaper on them to pay the fine than to offer us health insurance. Obamacare forces insurance companies to take you even with pre-existing conditions but does not force them to make it affordable so now I will have to purchase insurance at a price I cannot afford or face fines on my taxes. Someone who has cancer will have to be pre-authorized for treatment and then may have to wait months for treatment. The emergency rooms waiting areas will be filled and you may have to wait days to be treated for a serious illness or broken bone. How is that ideal for the American people?

So just because the president is half black it means that things will automatically get better for blacks?  How'd that work out these past 4 years?  Its as dumb an argument as people saying that the country will go down the shitter (or, depending on who you ask, already went down the shitter) because the president is black.

He had a relatively privileged life and went to good schools (like most politicians).  The only way he can relate to the majority of the black population in this country is skin color.
