Report: Miami Is A Finalist to Host Super Bowl L

Remember when NFL officials inferred that Miami might never host another Super Bowl unless serious upgrades were made to Sun Life Stadium? Apparently they weren't too serious about that threat. According to USA Today, Miami will be announced as one of two finalists to host Super Bowl L in 2016. Which is kind of a big deal because it would be the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl.
According to USA Today, the Super Bowl advisory committee will announce that Miami and New Orleans will be announced as the two finalists. Which makes traditional sense for the Super Bowl's big Five O.
The Miami area has hosted the Super Bowl 10 times, while New Orleans will host its 10th Super Bowl at the end of this season. No other areas have hosted more Super Bowls. So despite his comments about the state of our stadium, Commissioner Roger Goodell has been talking up the fact that he wants Super Bowl L to reflect the tradition of the event.
Back in 2009, Frank Supovitz, an NFL senior VP told the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce that Miami's Super Bowl hosting futures may be bleak without millions in upgrades to the stadium. He advised that the addition of a roof, modern lighting, and better VIP skyboxes would help Miami's cause.
Of course, few cities can offer what Miami can outside of the stadium. Our weather in February is usually superb, and we're experts at hosting big events like these.
The final selection will be announced in 2013.
