Vegetarian Florida Politician Eats Chick-Fil-A To Prove How Much He Hates Gays

Meat had not passed the lips of Jacksonville City Council member Don Redman for thirty-five years. That's not even a euphemism. Dude has been a solid vegetarian for three-and-a-half decades.

Proving, however, that not all vegetarians are bleeding heart hippies, he decided to break his long-standing no meat policy by chewing down on a Chick-Fil-A sandwich. Why? Because he just doesn't like those gays.

The chow down actually occurred back in August during the original Chick-Fil-A hoopla, and ahead of close vote in Jacksonville over a gay rights ordinance.

So, remember how way back in the '70s Anita Bryant got all pissed because Dade County passed a bill that prevented gays from being discriminated against in matters of housing and education. She lead an effort to repeal the ordinance. Then, back in 1998 Miami-Dade reinstated the ordinance. Yeah, well Jacksonville is still stuck in the days of Anita Bryant.

Sadly, Redman did not have pie for dessert after his Chick-Fil-A meal.

Redman was one of 10 member of the Jacksonville city council that would have offered anti-discrimination protections to gays in the areas of housing, employment and public accommodation. The bill failed 10-9.

Anyway, earlier this month a citizen wrote a letter to Redmen about his stance on the issue.

"You sound like a misguided & miserable individule [sic], who needs our prayers," Redman wrote back. "I pray that god will speak to your heart & show you the truthes [sic] of his word."
