Kirkpatrick, 71, has been accused of sexually assaulting a family member as young as 14 years old. Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating other complaints as well.
Kirkpatrick fled to Virginia after New Times and state health investigators verified accusations against the bad doctor. He quit practicing medicine, even inventing a story about Alzheimer's forcing him to retire.
But the father of Kirkpatrick's accuser says his status as a former doctor helped him avoid suspicion.
"I don't know how someone could get away with all that," says Donald White, whose name New Times has changed to protect his son's identity.
"I think a lot of what protected Homer Kirkpatrick was that he had been a doctor," he says. "Who would think that a doctor with an alleged great reputation would ever do anything like this?"
