Report: Marlins Open to Trading Giancarlo Stanton, Too

The Marlins have pretty much traded away every notable player on the roster not named Giancarlo Stanton, and it appears that Jeffrey Loria and his staff might be prepared to let the young slugger go, too. For the right price that is.

According to ESPN, it's well known that Stanton is pissed about the latest Marlins blow up, and a lot of teams have been inquiring about whether or not he might be up on the trading block as well. The Red Sox in particular seem to be daydreaming about Stanton in Boston.

Though, apparently as of right now the team plans to rebuild around the 23-year-old slugger, and aren't keen to let him go. That doesn't mean it's impossible.

ESPN says an unnamed club exec say they'd need three top prospects involved in any trade involving Stanton, which is a pretty steep price.

Stanton needs to realize that he is the cornerstone of the Marlins at this stage of the process. Two ways of looking at it, either he wants to be here and embrace the franchise identity. Or he can whine about all of a sudden being the team leader. He gets paid to play his best in every situation he faces for 162 games. He makes good money doing that. No one guaranteed him a championship, that's something for he and his new teammates to earn.

And as long as Loria and Sampson are here, I am no longer a Marlins fan. Will be a fan again once those dishonest clowns are gone!

Giancarlo Stanton doesn't want to be here because of the stupid moves made by this incompetent and dishonest front office. the best thing they can do is get Loria and Sampson packing!

SOrry, but the team was in dead last of the NL East. There isn't a player on the roster that isn't dealable. Especially when Stanton went off on how unhappy he was that the del was made earlier. Stanton had some knee work done last season ? Is he guaranteeing anything ? Then he's available for trade.

@MorgynC I think G.S. will stay put. Very few teams have the three or four top-caliber pieces, plus others, needed to get him. #JustSaying

@James G. Camp You are a clown... #1 Stanton has NEVER whined about anything.  He is unhappy in the direction the organization is taking this team, as most Marlins fans are.  #2, In the real world, $480K is a great amount of money but in the baseball world (which is where he is) he is grossly under paid... #3 "embrace the franchise identity" what are you talking about? what identity? He knows he is losing over 90 games again this season and he isn't happy about it... I wouldn't be either. Maybe you'd be and that says A LOT about you. -- Please stop posting, Mr. Samson...

@jgcamp99 When their record was 40-44, they traded Hanley, Infante & Sanchez.  So yes, they finished in last place, but the organization contributed.  OBVIOUSLY, it was either make the playoffs or bust for the ownership... When they realized they were going to struggle to make the playoffs, they broke the team so that we could finish in last place and this firesale wouldn't look so bad. Loria, Samson, Beinfest are scumbags.
