Former Miami Mayor Joe Carollo Is the City Manager of Doral Now For Some Reason
One of the City of Miami's most infamous ex-mayors was shockingly appointed as the new city manager of Doral last night. He was nominated by Mayor Luigi Boria, and unanimously confirmed by the entire council after the briefest of discussions.
Carollo replaces Yvonne Soler-McKinley, who resigned last month. Merrett Stierheim has been named interim manager, and was supposed to help in the search for a full time replacement. "Supposed to" being the key term. According to Naked Politics, Stierheim was shocked by Carollo's appointment:
In his resignation letter, Stierheim said he "played no role whatsoever" in the selection process, "nor was I aware of it." Reached later he called the appointment of the quick-tempered and often bombastic former public servant "a terrible decision."The choice was made without a full search for other candidates being conducted.
Carollo served as Miami's mayor from 1996 til 1997, and once again from 1998 until 2001 when he lost his reelection bid. His arrest in 2001 on domestic violence charges didn't do his reelection bid any favors. He's flirted with a return to politics on and off since.
Anyway, good luck with all of that Doral.
