Jets Might Hire Dolphins Assistant GM Brian Gaine as Their New GM, Which Should Work Out Well For Them

If there was one silver lining to the NFL season for Dolphins fans this year, it was the fact that while our team might have been mediocre at best, at least we weren't the laughing stock the New York Jets became this year.

They've fired their General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, and sort of surprisingly they've added Dolphins' assistant GM Brian Gaine to their short list of replacements and have received permission to interview him.

Because when you fire the guy who is the most despised GM in the AFC East, you want to higher the number two of the guy who is the second most despised GM in the AFC East. Makes sense to us.

I mean, usually when the Jets hire from the Dolphins it works out well for them. Look at how great their hiring of former Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano as their OC worked out! Oh wait, they just fired him yesterday? Nevermind.

Not to be too hard on Gaine, though. Just because he's working under Jeff Ireland, it shouldn't necessarily count against him. Let his track record in his duties speak for itself.

He joined the team in 2008 from the Dallas Cowboys along with the then new Bill Parcells/Jeff Ireland regime as Assistant Director of Player Personnel. He was then promoted Director of Player Personnel in 2011. Which mean he's the guy whose Ireland's right hand man when it comes to evaluating players to sign and draft. Like we said, let his record speak for itself.

Gaine has been noticed by others in the league before, however. He was interviewed by the St. Louis Rams for their GM position this time last year, but wasn't ultimately offered the job.

Gaine also does have previous connections to the Jets. He was once signed to their practice squad, and spent six years in their front office until 2004 before he joined Parcells in Dallas.
