The old newsroom saying has it that "dog bites man" isn't news, but "man bites dog" certainly is. Of course, this is Florida, where both man and dog skip the biting and just go straight to shooting. So, yes, we're pretty sure "dog shoots man" counts as some sort of news.

A man in Frostproof is recovering after his dog accidentally shot him in the leg.

According to Highlands Today, the incident happened last Saturday, February 23. That's when 35-year-old Gregory Dale Lanier was traveling in his truck with his dog and a gun on the floor, as one tends to do. Lanier thought the gun was unloaded, but obviously that wasn't the case.

While Lanier was driving, his dog kicked the .38 pistol, causing the gun to discharge into Lanier's leg. He felt a burning sensation and told police that at that point he realized the gun was in fact loaded.

His injuries weren't serious, and no charges will be filed against Lanier or the dog. Police ruled the shooting accidental.

Miami-Dade has its infamous pit-bull ban, and Broward County just gave up on trying to institute its own, but maybe it's time Floridians stop worrying about specific breeds and start worrying about armed dogs. We're pretty sure the Second Amendment does not apply to them.
