Miami's Saddest Craigslist Posting? Mother Begs for Bunny for Daughter

Categories: WTF Florida

"I am looking for this bunny," reads the enigmatic February 26 Craigslist ad. Beneath a photo of an absurdly cute rabbit with sparkling blue eyes, it continues: "I had it on hold for my daughter and it was not supposed to be sold. My daughter is devastated and she won't stop crying. I am willing to pay double what you purchased it for. Please, my daughter has had a hard life and she really wants this bunny."

Then there is an odd warning: "Don't try to scam us either. She has a real connection with this animal, and she will know if it is her or not."

Could a plea this tragic be real? We had to know. Keep reading for the story behind Miami's saddest ever Craigslist post.

Craigslist can be a perverted place. A recent search found its South Florida page clogged with creepy casual-encounter ads.

"In beach hotel looking for a young stud," one said. "Bubble butt -- let's have fun," read another with the requisite ass-clap accompanying photo. A third was the simplest of all: "I want to feel a man's fist."

Hidden among the sex addicts and the scammers, moments of heartfelt -- dare we say heartbreaking -- sincerity like the bunny rabbit post are so rare that we couldn't believe it was real. So we gave the number a call.

The ad was real, assured its author, Jessica Acosta. She then told Riptide how the fluffy animal had upended her household.

Her daughter, Raven Suarez, had just turned 16, so Acosta took her to the Pet Supermarket on Bird Road in South Miami. Suarez instantly fixated on a white bunny with azure eyes that put Sinatra to shame.

"I saw this bunny, and she blew my mind," Suarez says. Acosta made a deal. If Suarez could get 100 "likes" on her Instagram photo of the rabbit, she could buy it. The teenager spent all night pushing the picture online.

The next day, they returned to the store to buy the bunny -- which Suarez had already named Asuna Luna Akira -- but were told to buy food and a cage first. Employees said they wouldn't sell the rabbit in the meantime.

When Suarez sprinted into the Pet Supermarket hours later, however, Asuna was gone. The bunny had been sold to someone else. Suarez burst into tears.

"Everybody was looking at me," she admits. "For them to get my hopes up that high and then turn me down like that and tell me they already sold her, I just couldn't take it."

Luis, a manager at Pet Supermarket, says the store did nothing wrong. "Birds, rabbits, fish we cannot put on hold," he says over the chirp of parakeets. "Because what if the animal dies overnight?"

Suarez is inconsolable. Acosta's Craigslist ad hasn't yielded any leads. Neither has a link to the ad on Reddit nor her offer to pay as much as $60 for the furry creature. And her offers to buy her daughter another bunny have fallen on deaf ears.

"She's the only bunny I ever wanted," Suarez says. "I still can't get over her."

Is this a case of  real-life Dumb and Dumber?

At 16,  she should either buy another bunny or just get over it.

And the mom is the perfect example of what is wrong with people nowadays, raising spoiled brats and even expecting other people to follow along with their idiocy.

Please dont buy from pet stores!  Adopt instead and help saves the lives of other animals.

@Exiliado So what am I supposed to teach my daughter? That every animal or person is indispensable? Just buy her another bunny? Do you even care about how many animals are about to be killed in this world? No you don't. Cause you are just some asshole that doesn't give a shit about animals dying everyday in shelters. My daughter wants to be a Veterinarian. She sees animals as she sees people in this world. They are part of this world and they should have rights. We have two cats and they are my sons. You are just a miserable person that can't have enough morals to know that my daughter will probably read this, but that's ok, cause even though she was crying for that bunny, she has enough sense to know that there are many other animals on this earth that need a loving home too. And at 16, thank God she is not another teen infesting this earth with aids or any other sexual transmitted disease. All she wanted was a fucking bunny. Sorry Raven if you are reading this, but pathetic people make me sooo mad!!!!!

@Exiliado I feel like these might be the most self absorbed people on the planet.

@stickyweather I totally agree with you and we have always adopted, but my daughter saw this bunny and it was love at first sight. Adoption is the best option. Don't help breeders make money!

@imara_29 @Exiliado ... that she is sixteen and  she should grow up. wasting this much time on a bunny rabbit for your mopey teenage daughter? how and how does this mean the animal is indispensable  it was sold by a pet store, somebody else is caring for the animal. this not about values, its about you and your daughter exhibiting the most self centered behavior possible. you want to teach her a lesson about helping people... try a soup kitchen instead of whining about how she didn't get her special bunny. you sound like one of the parents in willy wonka and the chocolate factory catering to a whiny spoiled teenager. you aren't teaching them values or the value of life, you are teaching her vanity and how to be self centered. did you stop to think about the other owners ?  what are you gonna do when you find out it was given to an actual kid and not a young adult?

@judderwocky @Exiliado  Did you even take the time to read the real Craigslist ad? I spent a whole day posting these ads for my daughter. I can agree with you that most of the ads on Craigslist are scams and disgusting, but I have posted many ads and bought from many ads. I have never had a problem. It just might be that you are not a good person and have bad intentions toward people. Or maybe you just like to cause problems. My daughter is not a spoiled brat. She is just a teen trying to make a difference in this world for once. You should always keep your word, but much more than that, do what you say you will. Cause in the end. Your reputation is all that matters!

@imara_29 @judderwocky @Exiliado yeah... nothing makes a difference in the world like spending hours whining over a lost rabbit. seriously? i'm a bad person because i won't play into your pattern of enabling your daughter? you must thrive on drama.
