Rick Scott Suddenly Wants Barack Obama's Handouts

Perhaps the definitive moment of Rick Scott's governorship was his decision to axe a federally funded high speed rail line in Florida, but that doesn't mean he's totally opposed to asking for federal handouts. In advance of Obama's visit to the Port of Miami today, Scott blasted the administration and then asked for about $100 million in reimbursements for projects at ports in Miami and Jacksonville.

Obama's response: "Chill, bro. We already gave you some money."

Obama's speech today will deal with a plan to attract private financing to help fund public infrastructure projects.

Scott however blasted Obama as "late to the party" on port funding. Scott says Florida has spent $425 million on port projects since he's taken office.

"We could not wait for the federal government to come to the table with their share of the project," Scott wrote in a letter.

He then asked for $100 million in federal reimbursements.

The White House was quick to respond in a statement to the Palm Beach Post:
"The President believes that the Port of Miami can enhance the competitiveness of workers and businesses throughout the region and in the nation as a whole. That's why the Administration has taken a number of steps to fund and facilitate improvements at the Port, including a $340 million TIFIA loan to help finance the Port of Miami tunnel project and a $23 million TIGER grant to restore freight rail service between the Port and the Florida East Coast Railway, as well as completing the permitting for the Port's dredging project on an expedited timeline last August as part of the Administration's push to cut red tape around infrastructure construction."

I don't yet live in Fl., but I am planning on moving there in July of this year. All the negative things I am reading is really making me think twice. How did Scott get elected into office there is a really good question. He screwed Fl. out of $86 billion dollars and he is still the Gov.. How is that even possible that the Fl. people would let him in after doing that? Why not recall him and get him out of office? Why has he not been arrested for what he did and put in prison? Others are in prison for stealing that kind of money, what makes him any better than them? It is clear to me that this guy is bad news for Fl., and I don't even live there yet. Why do so many complain about him yet no one does anything about him or what he did?

Republicans are against federal government spending and want less federal government.  But of course that doesn't apply to something they want.  What is the word for this?  Oh yes --- hypocrisy.

How in the world did this guy get in? Why are the voters of Florida so STUPID? Was this a backlash to having our first black president? Looks like it.

@jedwin71 You are so right. Republicans are always seeking money for their pet projects in their home states, but they don't want the American people to know that. Millions of dollars a year go to republican pet projects and unless you keep up with the news you would never know that.

@sirhcrama  I doubt that it has anything to do with Obama, but instead with stupidity as a whole. I wondered the same thing every time Scott was in the news and what he had done next to Fl. I had not planned on living there at all at that time. I would like to forget that he is Governor.

@Tony Barrial If Scott does what a lot of Republican governors all over the country have been doing, he will win not by popular vote, but because he wins the electric.
