Burn Notice Is Officially Ending

The years of brewing tension between the City of Miami and the producers of Burn Notice over their use as the Coconut Grove Expo Center as their filming hub are apparently at an end. Today, USA announced that the upcoming show's seventh season will be its last.

Burn Notice has not only shot its last episode in Coconut Grove, but anywhere.

While still a ratings juggernaut for a cable drama, the cancelation might not have come as much of a surprise to those following the tussle with the city.

Last last summer the City of Miami struck a deal with the producers to allow the show to continue using the Expo Center for one more year with significantly higher rent. After that the city strongly suggested the show would have to find a new home elsewhere in the area.

Commissioners, most notably Marc Sarnoff, are keen to build a park on the site of the Expo Center.

Instead it appears that the producers and network decided seven seasons would be a good time to pack it in and call it a show. Besides, who knows if the show could have survived a change of setting anyway (even if it was just to a different part of Miami).

Of course, the ending of Burn Notice is a blow to the local economy. During it's first five seasons alone the show pumped about $100 million into the area, and that's not including any tourism-related boons brought on by the exposure.

The seventh and final season is set to premier on June 6.

If you're interested, a super fan has compiled every place the show used a filming location during its first five season.

So let me get this straight.  They guy passes away $20 million or so in local revenue annually to spend money to build a park that will bring in....   no noticeable increase in business anywhere?  People don't travel hundreds of miles to see a park, unless it's a park like Disney World.  Assuming that even gets built.

why would you want to charge a higher rent to a show that brings you in more revenue? Typical greedy city officials. FAIL!!

Sadly Commissioner Mark Sarnoff has been fighting Burn Notice every step of the way all while knowing that the city does not have the funds to build anything in that location and knowing that the production brings millions of dollars to the local economy and employs thousands of Miami citizens. Many of our own will be out of a job. This is why it's so important to use the power of your vote! The way this and other productions are handled here is deplorable when you can't buy the good will and advertising that high profile productions bring. This is why the movies and tv shows are few and far between in Miami while other states like Michigan, Georgia and Louisiana are getting the business while Florida runs them all off.

They haven't shot the last episode, but are about halfway through the last 13-episode season. They'll finish around the end of July.
