Around 3 o'clock this morning, a group of friends went for a dip in the ocean off First Street on South Beach, but one member of the group didn't make it back to shore.

He wasn't seen again until his body washed ashore a few blocks up the beach this morning.

According to WSVN, his body was found by a homeless man after he noticed it surrounded by birds on the sand near Sixth Street. The discovery was made around 7 a.m.

"I walked over there and I sat on a chair, and the beach birds swimming started flying all around the body," the man told the station. "I looked over, and it was right there."

Rescue workers had been searching for the man for hours.

The victim's name has not been released, but he's been described as a 40-year-old vacationing from France. Authorities say he was scheduled to fly back today.
