Miami Man's Plan to Impress With Maserati Backfires When the Car Won't Stop Making Frog Noises

Jose M. Perez
Jose M. Perez wanted to be a kamikaze in a Maserati, so he threw down $64,000 for a 2008 Grand Turismo from H Greg Auto Auction in Doral. He works as a real estate agent to the stars, a job in which it's important to provide comfort to clients. His business investment backfired, though, he claims, because the dealership sold him a car with an unusual problem they refuse to fix.

So now there's a Maserati in Miami that croaks like a frog.

"You can hear it outside the car when I'm at a stoplight like, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit," says Perez, who was hopping around Brickell when he contacted Riptide to gripe. The noise in question was audible in the background. "They make you fall in love with the car, they promise you the world, and then they don't honor it."

According to Perez, the noise existed when he purchased the car, but the dealership provided a written agreement and verbally promised to fix the car over the Fourth of July weekend. Like a person who stops feeling sick as soon as they get to the doctor's office -- or the WB frog that won't perform in front of an audience -- the car stopped making the obnoxious sound for a few hours after the long weekend. But then it came right back.

Independent mechanics think repairing the suspension -- the suspected origin of the frog noise -- will cost about $5,000, Perez says. He wants H Greg to fix the car as promised. Not only does having a Maserati that sounds like a frog defeat the purpose of driving a Maserati, but also the entire suspension could fall off the car as Perez is driving, he says.

Charlie Maroun, sales manager of H Greg, says he's ordered the parts to fix the car. He thinks he's being more than generous because the Mercedes S550 Perez traded in wouldn't even start days after the transaction. Plus, luxury cars tend to be finnicky and require expensive repairs. Maroun thinks Perez should get over Frog Car.

"You're buying a Maserati, bro. You wanna live that lifestyle, you gotta understand that they're handmade," Maroun says. "It's not like a Honda or Toyota."

I have the business card in front of me and it states name Charlie Maroun which I believe is the gentleman whom commented in this blog by name of Charbel Maroun. New times should definitely change this and other things that should be clear on  the article as  they mix things around to make it an attractive story.

First informals.... The dealer manager is Charbel maroon whom just commented below. This is to show of how professional this so called dealer "Hgreg auto Doral " treats clients.   Miami new times also twisted this story because I never said a lot of things they wrote and  I did not  buy a car to impress my clients. I simply bought a car because I wanted a two door sports car and that's the bottom line. Now in regards to what needed to be taken care of they said I give you my word this car will be fixed and put it in writing. I brought I back to dealer and left it . they had supposedly fixed the front suspension. come to find the car was doing same thing again. I took it to a Maserati/Ferrari specialists and they said the dealer never fixed the problem which meant they lied to me. later that same day I went back and they gave me this bullshit excuse that they couldn't do anything because the car I had traded in which was in full working condition when I left it.. now they claimed was not starting etc.. after an hour or two they said they would make me pay half of the repair for the suspension but I would have to leave it at their shop again ! would you guys give them money upfront and trust that they would do what they promise as they have already lied to me once ?  THey should honor their document in writing and not make me pay a single dollar! I just don't feel comfortable leaving the car with them as I don't know what really would be fixed or not so that why I will take car myself to collection dealer next week and pay out of pocket . Later I will have my lawyers file law suit for time spent and damages etc. I am done with this car bullshit learning from this to never buy a used car specially from cut throat dealers  and my intentions which I told new times simply alert anyone whom could be a victim of this dealer as I already come to find there have been several which never had the balls to come forward with filing a claim with BBB /state of florida attorney general.  #douchebagdealer #douchebagdealermanager

More scum business tactics from a dealership. So what if his Mercedes wouldn't start? If it was sold "as-is" that is on YOU, but when you make a written and oral agreement to repair a problem with a vehicle as part of a transaction, you have to HONOR IT, not make a backhanded roundabout comment branding the buyer as a cheap neophyte. It's a Maserati, sure it will break again, and again, and AGAIN.....but this one is you Mr,. dealership.

A buddy of mine in the past bought a vehicle from them and it was the same issue.. Promised to fix but they didn't get it done... Expensive or cheap vehicles.. They just don't want to invest on fixing.. All they want is to make profit, make you sign the buyers guide and moving on

If the dealer promised to fix the issue, they should come forward and complete the job that they failed to complete. It seems to me that they promised to fix it but once they noticed the cost, they tried to just rig it to try to cover up the actually issue. But as the article states the problem continued. I agree with the previous comment, this calls for a class action law suit to cover the cost to repair the vehicle with a certified Maserati mechanic. Good luck my friend.

Miami businesses, from health to restaurant, and specially car dealers, are in the practice of mistreating and fooling consumers. Too much greed instead of doing their job the right way. I hope H Greg grown up and stands up to their responsibility. If they don't, I hope they get sued. Best of luck Jose!

Worst Dealer to buy from any vehicle.. unethical and treat clients poorly with no customer satisfaction. Class action lawsuit... Dealer should take care of repair. I have heard of several cases like this from this dealer in which buyers didn't come forward and were scammed.

Bro? Seriously?  A manager that talks like this should be fired.  Anyways, handmade implies greater care is taken during the manufacturing process since they're not being stamped out by the hundreds everyday.  That being said, used luxury cars are a horrible purchase.  But I guess for a douhcebag looking owner like this guy, its all about image.

@Charbel Maroun

Is it even legal for you to disclose the financials on this and if someone co signed? Fortunately I only purchase new cars from the official dealership of the make of the car
