Donald Trump Bids Today on Versace Mansion: Four Other Things We Can't Let Him Buy UPDATED

Categories: Business

The storied Versace mansion goes to auction today, and none other than Donald Trump plans on making a bid. Trump has met the requirements and laid down a $3 million deposit, qualifying him to purchase the ten-bedroom, 11-bathroom Mediterranean-style estate at 1116 Ocean Dr.

Trump confirmed his interest Tuesday morning. "Yes, I will be a bidder," he said. "I'll be bidding the minimum number, and we'll see what happens." The minimum bid, you ask? A cool $40 million.

Update: The winning bidder was Joe Nakash, owner of the Victor Hotel next door, who will pay $41.5 million. He will run it in conjunction with the Victor.

The illustrious Verasace mansion includes 19,000 square feet of estate, which includes a mosaic-tiled, 24-karat-gold-lined pool. Wellington developer Glenn Straub, who owns the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club, has also expressed interest. Straub filed court papers last Friday, signaling his plans to bid on the property.

The purchase of the Versace mansion very well could be the crown jewel of Trump's "Florida collection." He owns the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, which was the former estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post, which was renovated and turned into a private club and spa. Last year, Trump purchased the former Doral Golf Resort and renamed it Trump National Doral, because of course. The Doral resort is in the midst of a $250 million renovation.

With Trump slowly moving in on our South Florida turf, we might want to declare a couple of things off-limits before it's too late. Here are a few that come to mind:

The Miami Heat

Micky Arison for life! Chances are the team will stay in the Arison family for a long time, but if it were to ever go up for sale, Trump is not on the list of people you would want purchasing the team.

The Freedom Tower

Just no, so wrong, never. Nothing says "freedom" like Donald Trump owning you.

The Port of Miami

Yeah, it would be pretty tough to buy the Port of Miami, but it's on the list just in case.

Opa-tisha-wocka-locka will never be yours, Trump, because Opa-tisha-wocka-locka isn't for sale.

Donald Trump is a loser. Anybody can go bankrupt once, three times, means you are a loser, or is taken advantage of the system. I do not pay attention to losers!

Donald Trump is a hypocrite and an idiot. His clothing/tie line is all made in China. But nobody buys his stuff so few people know about it. That's why he can go on TV and talk with his big mouth /comb over
