Miami Beach police are on the lookout for a man who followed an unsuspecting woman into her Ocean Drive hotel room, overpowered her, and then raped her.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 6. The victim, a Swiss tourist, was walking into the Hotel Breakwater at 940 Ocean Dr. around 4:30 a.m. when the suspect followed her in.

The two do not know each other and had not met earlier in the night. The suspect told the woman that he was staying on the same floor that she was. They rode the elevator up together, but when the doors opened to the woman's floor, the suspect physically overpowered her and forced her into her room. He later sexually battered her.

Afterward, the man took off with his victim's cash.

Surveillance footage from the hotel caught the man's face on camera.

Police describe him as a black male in his 20s. He's around 5'10" and about 230 pounds and might have a tattoo with cursive lettering on the left side of his upper chest.

Anyone with information on the man's identity is asked to call the Miami Beach Police Department at 305-673-7901 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).

this is 3 1/2 blocks from the police department. after living in South Beach for 7 years, left a year ago, (one of many reasons), the worst police department in the world, where are the cops? looking for gays or residences to harass?, looking for ways to make more money? they should be protecting the tourist, main bread and butter of people that work and live there

This is so sad and scary for any women going to SouthBeach.

i live there once and it was safe.

but unfortunetely that Area is Going Downhill lost its appeal.

Orlando: While that can be assumed, as a "news" outlet, perhaps they shouldn't leave room for speculation by attaching a "suspect" video to that kind of headline. I, for one, am not convinced that the average reader will know what you were able to distinguish.

South Beach was dangerous and a little disgusting in the early 80's.. Maybe it's moving back in that direction. Also, never leave valuables on the beach while you go for a swim.. you will get ripped off eventually.

South Beach has really lost its appeal...have you seen the crowds there lately? Tourists and lots of "urban" crowd.

Now this is the kind of animal Miami Beach Police can brutalize with my permission.. not skateboarding teens, good Samaritans, and drunk women.

Phuong, the footage is of the man suspected of doing it. The headline itself reports on the fact that it happened. "man followed woman" != "this man pictured here followed a woman"

If he is suspected and not convicted why does your headline state factually that he raped and robbed her?

@Phuong Nguyen so it doesn't bother you that she was raped only that the headline is wrong.
