Michael Dunn, Accused of Killing Unarmed Black Teen, Says "Thugs" Should Be Shot So They "Take The Hint"

In November 2012, Michael Dunn, a white man, got into a confrontation with four black teens at a gas station over loud music playing in their SUV. Dunn ended up pulling out a gun and firing several shots into the vehicle. One of the bullets struck and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

Now, News4Jax has obtained several letters written by Dunn from jail as he awaits trial. In them, he claims he's not racist but advocates things like killing "thugs" so they "take the hint and change their behavior." Dunn also rails against the media, claiming journalists are a bunch of "liberal bastards."

Here are a few excerpts from his jailhouse letters.

From a letter to his grandmother:

"I'm really not prejudiced against race, but I have no use for certain cultures. This gangster-rap, ghetto talking thug 'culture' that certain segments of society flock to is intolerable. They espouse violence and disrespect towards women. The black community here in Jacksonville is in an uproar against me -- the three other thugs that were in the car are telling stories to cover up their true 'colors.'"

From another letter to Grandma:

"I am amazed at what is going on with the way the media has been covering this case. Their have been several other shootings here in Jacksonville, yet they are all either black-on-black or black-on-white, and none of them have garnered any attention from the media. I guess it's news when someone dares to not to be a victim, but they are twisting it around sand saying I was the 'bad guy.'"

And from another letter to her:

"The jail is full of blacks and they all act like thugs. This may sound a bit radical but if more people would arm themselves and kill these (expletive) idiots, when they're threatening you, eventually they may take the hint and change their behavior."

From a letter to an unnamed supporter:

"I'm not getting much in the way of sympathy from the press. They're a bunch of liberal bastards!...

They seem to have a lot of racial guilt, or at least the prosecutors office does. The jail here is almost all black prisoners. You'd think Jacksonville was 90-90% black judging by the makeup of the folks in jail here! ... My fear is that if I get 1 black on my jury it will be a mistrial as I am convinced they will be racially biased."

In other letters, Dunn claims that the victim had a weapon in the car and that he believes he has a stronger case than George Zimmerman. No weapons were found inside the SUV, according to Jacksonville Police. Dunn also fled the scene after he killed Davis.

There is a text in the Holy Bible which states, "Let the wheat and the tares grow together until the day of harvest." With that said I would like to say that Mr. Dunn does not have the right to decide who lives or who dies. I am a 40 year old black male who grew up in the ghetto. I never sagged, engaged in gang activities, nor did I go around terrorizing people. But what if I did? Would shooting me because of how you generally feel about "my kind" helps society? Dunn said that if more citizens should arm themselves and shot these young black people then they would " get the message" and change. I tell you this Mr. Dunn, violence only beget violence. Twelve year as a police officer and today I am a lawyer. Yesterday I was a wayward teen. I can now thank God that I did not venture near a person like Dunn when I was a teen. Because I would have been dead already; shot because he didn't like the music I liked to listen to as an immature, misguided youth bombarded by peer pressure on every side. Michael Dunn, you are a racist. People who thinks like you do and acts irrationally out of anger need not be set free to terrorize the misguided youths, thugs, blacks, or anyone for that matter. There are laws in our society, and trained police officers to enforce them. Take up your phone and call the police, they will come and do their job. Do not take the law into your racist hand.

He is racist, but yes, if you walk around Overtown or Allapattah there is a thug culture. I'm proud to be a defense lawyer but can at least recognize this. Same with Lauderhill, Pompano, ect.

his opinion isn't racist... its dangerous.. but its brought on by fear of & being threatened by a culture which by modern day standards is barbaric. "Thug, gangster culture", is why our black men & anyone who fits into that "look" are in jai and automatically criminalized. White people(some black people) label all young black men as participants & feel just in defending themselves

So, basically he believes that a culture in which people kill other people for belonging to a culture they don't like is okay. But being part of a culture that listens to rap music real loud, and gets their aggression out lyrically is terrible. Bravo sir. You've reached a low level of hypocrisy I thought only the government was capable of. e_e

@myslacs Very good comment. Too bad Mr. Dunn did not have  a parent like you who instilled a moral backbone into his spine. Then maybe he would not be in the county jail.

@Omar Ghaffar I'm old enough to remember when all of Miami was dangerous. All of it. I was a PO and worked in Miami. I'm a product of Liberty City 15th Ave. If you wanted to see a thug culture you should have been in Liberty City in the 80's. Liberty City today is a 1000x better than then it was. Overtown was founded by hardworking Bahamians during the first turn of the Century. Liberty City a few decades later. Just in the past few decades has this 'thug' culture emerged. It was not always this way.

@Joshua Numa  It is the wrong way to make a stand, and he should not be looked up to for acting like a coward.

@Mercy Mercy-Me You got it! He has an attitude like a thug himself. I really feel sorry for him having to listen to rap music. He should get a life and wash his hair while he is at it.
