Halloween came a little early for New Yorkers this season, or at the very least, some of them were given a second excuse to gorge on candy. Apparently, there's a "weed fairy," and she's using social media to spread a very chill message.

On Friday, the internet lit up with news of a mysterious benefactor leaving dank nugs around the city to bolster denizens' spirits. Flyers appeared around the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn and throughout the borough's subway stations with an uplifting message and about a bowl's worth of weed. "These are tough times," wrote the Weed Fairy, who signed only with the hashtag #TheGardenBreath. "Take this weed & keep your spirits high."

When something seems too good to be true, it usually is. The first people to tweet about the found pot were worried it might be laced -- echoing the concerns of helicopter moms who have fretted since time immemorial over the possibility of razor blades in their kids' trick-or-treat candy. The fear was, thankfully, unfounded: Rich Juzwiak of Gawker Media reported that after smoking the fairy's gift, he was full-on "stoned to the bone."

So who is this merry trickster? Someone who goes by the name @Gooprone on her personal Twitter account, apparently.

And, as it turns out, the mysterious Weed Fairy hails from the Magic City.

A little more internet sleuthing reveals that although the Weed Fairy doesn't partake of the plant herself, she enjoys making music about it under the moniker Pizza Trolls. Riptide reached the Weed Fairy by phone last night, but she declined to comment about how long she will continue spreading her message of hope in the form of dope.
