82 Percent of Floridians Support Medical Marijuana, 48 Percent For Recreational Use

treyradelcolbert-1.jpg
Smoke it if you've got a prescription. That's what the vast majority of Floridians say about marijuana. A new Quinnipiac poll shows that 82 percent of Floridians support the use of medical marijuana.

But only 48 percent support decriminalization of small amounts of pot for recreational use, which, hey, is still almost 50 percent.

Quinnipiac specifically asked Floridians if they "support or oppose allowing adults in Florida to legally use marijuana for medical purposes if their doctor prescribes it." There was broad support. The least support of any tracked demographic was registered Republicans, but even they support it at a 70 percent rate. Meanwhile, 90 percent of voters between ages 18 and 29 support medical marijuana.

Overall, just 16 percent oppose medical marijuana, with 3 precent undecided.

Floridians were much more divided when it came to recreational use.

Asked whether they "support or oppose allowing adults in Florida to legally possess small amounts of marijuana for personal use," 48 percent indicated support, while 46 percent opposed. Again, Republicans make up the lowest support, at just 30 percent, while 65 percent of voters between ages 18 and 29 support recreational use.

The poll also asked Floridians whom they'd vote for in the gubernatorial race, but there's not much change there from other polls. In this one, Charlie Crist leads Rick Scott by seven points.

Meanwhile, in the Q poll, Scott achieved his highest favorability rating back in June, with 40 percent finding him favorable. He's down to 39 percent in this poll. Oddly, only 41 percent of Floridians have a favorable opinion of Scott.

All you recreational pot heads aren't looking to own this one as representative of your little stoner club ?

"The suspect in the fatal hit-and-run day care crash has a criminal record, court documents show.

Robert Alex Corchado, 28, was convicted of cocaine trafficking in Orange County and sentenced to three years in state prison. He was released in Sept. 2012, records show.

In Seminole County, Corchado has an open case stemming from an arrest on Dec. 3, when he was charged with careless driving, hit-and-run, leaving the scene of a crash with damage to property, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of cannabis and possession of other controlled substances.

In that incident, officials said Corchado crashed a vehicle on Park Vale Boulevard and when they arrived they smelled marijuana on him."

So please, unleash these types on the rest of us, not like a law matters to them anyway ?

I'm all for both. I haven't smoked it in many, many moons, but it never made me want to commit any crime, (other than it was 'illegal') or much of anything except giggle.

1)  Doctors don't "prescribe" medical marijuana

2)  Only a state as fucked up as Flor-uh-duh could have 82% voter support for something and still have it be illegal.

Lol ^ as if millions of people in south Florida alone didn't already smoke weed. Maybe it has that kind of effect on you but it's effects vary from person to person. MANY people are highly functional when high on THC.

With the large aging population in Florida, medical marijuana could help hundred of thousands of seniors with safe, inexpensive pain relief. Medical marijuana works the best for pain and you can't overdose on it. I found a great medical marijuana book that has great recipes, uses less valuable marijuana, and has smaller candies to use for pain on a daily basis: MARIJUANA - Guide to Buying, Growing, Harvesting, and Making Medical Marijuana Oil and Delicious Candies to Treat Pain and Ailments by Mary Bendis, Second Edition. How about just $2.99 for great e-book on medical marijuana? This book has great recipes for easy marijuana oil, delicious Cannabis Chocolates, and tasty Dragon Teeth Mints.

Florida Health Officials reported there are 1.6 MILLION Floridians that would be eligible for treatment using medical cannabis. I believe that is acknowledgement of medical value, though the numbers are taken from those with diseases that are clearly documented to benefit from medical cannabis. That means those people tried everything else and found more relief and benefit from cannabis than standard treatment. Why would we deny this for Floridians?

It's only a matter of time before the baby boomers age and leave their positions of power, and this will then be legalized.

The substances in cannabis smoke Cannabis smoke contains many of the same cancer causing substances (carcinogens) as tobacco - at least 50 of them. In addition, cannabis is often mixed with tobacco when smoked. One of these carcinogens is benzyprene. Benzyprene is in the tar of both tobacco and cannabis cigarettes. We know that benzyprene causes cancer. It alters a gene called p53, which is a tumour suppressor gene. We know that 3 out of 4 lung cancers (75%) occur in people who have faulty p53 genes. The p53 gene is also linked to many other cancers. Cannabis also contains a substance called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). It is the THC in the cannabis that changes your mood and behaviour. The amount of THC in a cannabis cigarette varies considerably. Researchers have shown that THC causes benzpyrene to promote the p53 gene to change. But other researchers have looked at the effects of pure THC on brain tumour cells and found that it killed them in laboratory tests. This is a long way from using it as a treatment. New Times, you guys are a bunch of fucking hypocrites. One article you're slandering a woman who killed someone in an accident involving alcohol, emphasizing all through the article that she was an avid marijuana smoker, posting up her twitter posts about marijuana, making it seem like marijuana played some sort of role in her inability to drive safely and cautiously, then you post this. Acting as if you're marijuana advocates. You're a bunch of propaganda spreading hypocrites. Here's a big FUCK YOU from all of us that smoke marijuana and want to open eyes to the wonders this plant brings both as medicine and as hemp, an industrial behemoth with an incredibly wide range of uses.

If Floridians were aware we spend $40,000.00 per inmate, per year. We'd probably rethink sentencing for someone with $20-$40.00 worth of weed on them.
