Jeff Ireland Told Jonathan Martin's Agents That Martin Should Punch Richie Incognito

We've already made the case that in light of the Dolphins scandal involving Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, general manager Jeff Ireland should resign or be fired, but new reports of his ridiculous immediate response upon learning of the problem only add to that argument.

When Martin's agent called Ireland to tell him that Incognito was bullying Martin, Ireland responded by suggesting that Martin just punch Incognito.

*Facepalm*

From NBC's ProFootball Talk:

Per multiple league sources, Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland received a call from one of Martin's agent, Kenny Zuckerman, after Martin left the team on October 28. Zukerman complained to Ireland about the manner in which Incognito was treating Martin.

Ireland, according to the sources, suggested to Zuckerman that Martin physically confront Incognito. Ireland specifically mentioned that Martin should "punch" Incognito.

So let's get this straight. This story wasn't quite a scandal at that point but had already attracted national attention for the odd way in which Martin just got up and left the facilities. Ireland's response was that the two men should just have a fistfight.

Did he miss the part of preschool when we all learned violence doesn't solve anything? Did he really think it would be a good idea for the next day's headlines to read, "Martin returns to team and cold-clocks teammate"? Has he ever given one iota of evidence to suggest that he should be in charge of a billion-dollar sports franchise?

Lol wut a tool running a team, unbelievable.. Honestly im not totally against that idea cuz i believe thats wut Martin shoulda done from the beginning before this spiraled out of control. Sure it woulda made headlines but it woulda been more normal for a fight to happen in a pro football team locker room than a bullying scandal. However its not right for Ireland to suggest, advise or encourage that behavior as a front office personnel tho, hence him being a tool in power. Get'm out of here already..

Ok...he's an idiot...but uuummmmm WHO HASN'T SAID THIS!?!?!?!?! Every father has told their child you need to stand up to a bully and put him in his place. Granted, we also don't know the context. He could have said it as a joke, and the agent could have said "this is no laughing matter, this is serious" but we aren't hearing all of that, all we heard is that the agent said that he said that Martin should have punched him...which personally, i wish he would have, because then maybe, JUST MAYBE he could have taken that aggression and applied it on the field since he obviously didn't.

Dear Jeff Ireland: you have just encouraged one of your employees to commit a crime. Let alone the fact that you, by your advice, would put 2 of your players in danger of injury. Please quit. Oh, and go fuck yourself on your way out the door, asshole. Good day, sir. I said, good day!

A team mired in mediocrity because of poor management and weak ownership.

So if any Dolphins fans have a problem with Jeff Ireland, it's ok to punch him in the face?
