More details have come to light of the shocking incident yesterday in which a man fell out of a small plane into the Atlantic Ocean just a mile off the coast of Miami.

Police have now identified the victim as Gerardo Nales of Key Biscayne. It appears that bad weather may have caused the door of the plane to fly open during the flight, or that Nales intentionally jumped from the plane.

The incident happened yesterday at around around 1:30 p.m. and involved a six-passenger Piper PA 46 plane. The plane had taken off from Tamiami airport.

The FAA has also now released the call the pilot made after the incident happened:

Pilot: "Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! I have a door ajar and I'm heading toward Tamiami ..." Pilot: "I have a door ajar and a passenger that fell down...." Air traffic controller: "You said you've got a passenger that fell out of your plane?" Pilot: "That's correct, sir. He opened the backdoor and he just fell down the plane."

No foul play is suspected. Nales was the only other person onboard aside from the still publicly unidentified pilot.

The incident was so unbelievable that investigators weren't sure whether or not the report was real at first. Rescue crews are still combing the area searching for Nales.
