Florida City Man Runs Prostitute-Review Website From a Sonny's Bar-B-Q

Dean Moreau is a businessman in Florida City. He runs a Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q there and once received a free membership to the Cutler Bay Business Association for donating food to a luncheon. On the side, he is also a managing member of Gringo Travel LLC, which until recently was highlighted on the Monger Network, one of the world's premier websites for reviewing prostitutes.

So intertwined are the 44-year-old's two businesses that those who wish to anonymously subscribe to Monger Network must send $40 to his Sonny's franchise store on South Dixie Highway. After Moreau manually processes the cash, the new member can click through message boards that praise Third-World prostitutes willing to give blowjobs without condoms, and shame those considered to be bad or lazy performers.

Reached by phone, Moreau initially described Gringo Travel LLC as an informational website that sells travel discounts. But when asked about Monger Network, to which he has no apparent tie beyond the Gringo Travel mention, he paused. "I mean, look at the site -- it's about mongering," he admitted before adding that all of his mail is delivered to the Sonny's and that he's just processing the money for a friend who lives in another country.

Moreau's friend "Jonesie" hides behind an avatar on the internet and never publishes under his real name. The Colombia resident calls himself an internet marketer and is responsible for the content of the site. Boards promoting sex tourism have existed since at least 1994, but what separates Monger Network is its nude images. Jonesie says he started off as a whoremonger hobbyist who preferred to pay for sex rather than engage in traditional relationships. In 2010, he registered Monger Network's domain for $9 and began running the site as a side business.

"I don't really have a problem with being called a monger," Jonesie says. "There are no victims in my hobby, and all of the women I do business with are over 18 and not being exploited in the actual sense of the word."

But Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q, which was formed in Gainesville and is now headquartered in Winter Park, does not share the same willingness to be associated with a site that describes sex in graphic detail.

In response to New Times' inquiry, company officials have dispatched an executive team and hired a private investigation company. "Sonny's requires the highest ethical and moral behaviors and standards to be followed by all of its franchisees," says Montana Olson, public relations manager for the chain. "Our franchise agreements specifically prohibit illegal or immoral activity and will be strictly enforced."

Umm... someone sends cash to Moreau. Moreau processes the cash through his restaurant business, and then sends the money behind the scenes to his "friend" named Jonesie.

If I owned the Sonny's business and this guy were running my franchise, damn straight I'd want him fired. This is a textbook case of money laundering, and if anyone decided to spend any time looking into it, I'd spend the next three years being audited, spending $$$ on lawyers, and trying to persuade the Feds that they shouldn't put a hold on my corporate accounts.

Really. Whatever you think about New Times or the author of this piece (I've never heard of the publication, and I came here through @FloridaMan on Twitter), maybe you should... just... think for a minute before you post some critical comment that makes you look silly. This story actually has very little to do with "whore mongering," and a lot to do with obvious violations of 18 USC § 1956 - Laundering of monetary instruments.

Good job with probably getting him fired. You guys have gone from a ragtag group of shitty "journalists" to being assholes.

What a farse!  Here's a publication who happily accepts  Money from advertisers of "ESCORT SERVICES" and shady "MASSAGE PARLORS" - and they're trying to make a mountain out of someone accepting mail for a friend!  Sounds like the Pot calling the Kettle black!  I don't see the connection between Sonny's and this website which you've just sensationalized!  Congratulations!  It's a stretch to put Sonny's Bar-B-Q and prostitution together.  Hope you're proud of needlessly causing someone to loose their job and trashing a fine, reputable, well known chain.  Does Sonny's not advertise with you?  Is that what this is all about???  Sounds like bad reporting to me.  Sonny's doesn't deserve such shabby, baseless trash reporting.  You guys/gals are really this desperate to fabricate such an absurd story??  Shame on you Miami PHEW Times!  Shame on you.

Sorry Todd, the site only references outside of the US. Not for nothing, but I live in Costa Rica, not Colombia. I realize the author considers all of us as beaners south of her, but at least she could try to make one thing she wrote true...

Anybody got the link to that site?  I need to check up on a gal before we hook up.

How scorned or damaged does a woman need to be to attack innocent strangers simply because they know someone doing something you don't like?  What was it Allie, couple ex-boyfriends cheat on you with hookers?  While I appreciate you describing my site as one of the world's premier monger sites, it shows absolute poor journalistic ethics to mak

e venomous statements about a guy who's only crime is doing a buddy a favor. I am the sole proprietor and manager of Monger Network. Dean was nice enough to accept mail for me not knowing the purpose of it, and for that, you pull this story out of your butt so you won't have to think of something real to write about... I'd say it's time for you and your paper to lawyer up.  Jonesie

I love Sonny's BBQ, probably the last place I'd look for love though.

prostitution is not legal, but having a site available that enables you to review prostitutes is? Florida keeps getting nastier.

Yeah, this story is crap. Sounds like you guys just put someone out of work because he's a whore monger... Get off the high horse miami new times.... You're better suited to the grime.

"Guy accepts mail and cash at some particular location for internet sex site " This wasn't even newsworthy, how pointless (that the guy is getting investigated). Are these the leftover "gold nuggets" from Googling sex tourism for that other article? (Which had no conclusion and was ultimately unsatisfying). Poor and sloppy writing for what is supposed to be a major, featured article on this website and the print edition. Can't wait to see what other eventful stuff about this topic the author has left in her Google search history.
