A Miami postal truck exploded on the eastbound Julia Tuttle Causeway this morning, causing a massive traffic jam that stretched back to the city.

Responding officers declined to specify the cause of the explosion. "Was it a bomb?" one asked. "No, it was a fire."

If that's all, it sure was an awfully strong one.

"There's a lot of paper in a postal truck," Miami Beach Police spokesperson Bobby Hernandez tells New Times. "so that's what causes it to so engulfed in flames."

We'll update when more details become available.

Any word on the condition of the carrier?  Are they okay?  Some of us are concerned about fellow human beings.

The vehicles are over 30 years old.  This happens when oil hits the transmission.
