Dolphins Owner: Michael Sam Would Be "Welcomed Here with Open Arms"

Certain concern trolls seem to be of the mind that Michael Sam should wind up in an NFL team with a progressive owner, an entrenched GM, a strong head coach, and a healthy locker room culture -- all of which the Miami Dolphins lack. However, owner Stephen Ross says the team would welcome Sam "with open arms."

"If he is a member of our organization, Michael will be welcomed here with open arms as part of our family," Ross said in a release.

He added, however, that Sam's announcement will have no impact on the team's evaluation of him in anyway.

"Michael Sam's announcement is a significant step in sports and I respect the choice that he made publicly," Ross's statement continued. "His announcement will have no bearing either way on our evaluation of him as a player. Dennis Hickey, Joe Philbin and I all agree on the same thing; we'll draft the best players that can help us win football games, have high character and contribute to the community."

Ross is one of the first owners to make such a statement.

Some commenters have also said that Sam might be best suited to play in a more socially liberal market, and the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area is notably gay friendly, for the most part.

However, the Dolphins' draft efforts will more likely focus on offensive players. The team has noticeable holes in the offensive line, and, to a lesser extent, some running back questions.
