Miami Model Slams Vidal Sassoon Stylist Over "Worst Haircut Ever"

Love may be "an ever-fixed mark/That looks on tempests and is never shaken," as the Bard once wrote. But beauty is a fickle bitch.

That's a lesson Kerri Aultman now knows all too well. The model normally keeps her hair dyed dark, with short sides and a long, stylish swoop in front that hides half of her pretty face. The dramatic hairdo is ideal for her performance art pieces at parties and club openings. "My appearance is my living," she says.

So she was skeptical when she met Susie Kim. Aultman was having a drink at Wood Tavern when Kim approached her. "I love your hair," Kim said. She then introduced herself as a stylist and instructor for Vidal Sassoon in Miami Beach. "I'd love to give you a free cut sometime if you'd be willing to model for my class."

Aultman cautiously promised to consider it. But in the weeks that followed, Kim kept texting her. Finally, she agreed, but only if Kim would cut her hair without her students around. "Her credentials were legit," Aultman says. "After getting another bad haircut [elsewhere], I decided to try something new."

The model and the hairstylist met at Sassoon's Miami Beach salon Friday, January 17. They spoke for half an hour as Aultman showed Kim images of Noomi Rapace's Mohawk in the Swedish film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. But once Kim began cutting, things quickly went off script.

KerriAultman3.jpeg
"You're not really liking this haircut," Kim mentioned halfway through.

"How could I?" Aultman answered. "I don't have any hair left."

In fact, by the time Kim finished, Aultman's hair looked more ravaged than Rapace-like.

"I am, like, bald. I'm not even kidding," Aultman says. "I have a scissor line in my scalp." Aultman had planned on tipping Kim $40 for her trouble. Instead, she says, "I walked out without giving her anything except for a piece of my mind."

When she texted Kim later to say she was still upset, things got snarky.

"Well, it's unfortunate you couldn't appreciate the free service and the creativity of the haircut, which was tailored for you," Kim texted back.

"No, what's unfortunate is that you didn't listen to your client," the model replied.

Aultman says the haircut is so bad she has had to wear wigs, even during a photo shoot for the new downtown club E11even. "It's so humiliating," she says. "My hair is not a free-for-all. This has hurt my job opportunities."

Kim claims Aultman is making too much out of a free haircut.

"I'm sorry, but I find it a little humorous," she says. "She's a model. To be a model, you have to be more open about things... I loved the haircut. I thought it looked great. She got compliments from everyone in the salon. I just think she's not a happy person.

"She was insulting me in front of my clients, saying this was a terrible haircut," Kim adds. "I don't think people should complain about something they get for free. Besides, how does a haircut destroy someone's career?"

First off, this article is crap. Why is this even newsworthy at all? It's a haircut for a Miami "model" not someone super important.

I'm a client of Susie's and how she is described in this article is complete bull. She makes my hair look amazing and she followed the photo I brought in to a T. She is a lovely person and super talented. If you are going to Sassoon you are asking for something that isn't normal but super creative and awesome.

So what you didn't like your haircut? Good thing hair grows back. Don't ruin the amazing career and future prospects for a wonderful human being because you didn't like your hair.

Just Miami New Times and another of their articles bullying people.

The reason I am commenting is that I have modeled for this hair stylist for over a year and still am.  She is kind, talented, and very creative.  she makes me feel pretty when I step out of her chair.  I get stopped constantly and told how great my hair cut is.  Firstly, the author of the article stated that the recipient didn't like her last haircut either.  Secondly, color makes all the difference.  Third, as a model you are a canvass.  No one ever complained to a news paper or sued because Prada made their butt look large.

Also, I want to point out that this is a creative cut.  It's not for everyone.  Just like many of you will think that modern art is crap.  But since when is it ok to take one person's complaint and make it news?  This hairstylist has to eat and live.  Why weren't other clients interviewed?  This is biased and gossip.  Really, is this what we have become?  I think this woman just wants her 15 minutes of fame and attention and is willing to ruin a person's reputation to get it.  The stylist is an instructor for Vidal Sassoon.  They don't just let anyone do that.

We take full responsibility for any services provided by the Sassoon team and apologize for this miscommunication that occurred during Kerri Aultman’s appointment. We are more than happy to arrange for our Creative Director to recut and style Ms. Aultman’s hair when the length allows and will ensure the new look is designed to Ms. Aultman’s preference. As we 100% stand behind the Sassoon experience and level of expertise provided, we want to emphasize that we don’t make a distinction between a service given to a model or paying client. Each Sassoon haircut should be developed to complement the individual, and if Ms. Aultman agrees to a service with our Creative Director, she will leave with a haircut that will both complement and enhance her professional and personal life.  - The Sassoon Miami Creative Team

Mr. Miller,

Are you bored at work or something? This is the best story you have? You decide to write an article about someone ruining someone's hair instead of something more meaningful? Were you there when this happened? Or are you just taking someone's word for it and spinning it to where people would enjoy this worthless article.

How do u know the stylist was begging her? How do u know what the client wanted? Exactly, you don't. Funny how a play of words can turn this situation into a bigger deal than it is. So this person is apparently a model? If this was a Heidi Klum or some shit it might be newsworthy.

Go find another job. You are a disgrace to journalists.

Oh yeah, I'm a Huffington Post writer too..maybe I should write about how crap this article is.

They ignore what the client says regardless of if you are paying or not, I sent a model in with an actual photo of a Sassoon cut and got something entirely different nearly ruining my models shoot the next day, I had to send her to another salon  when they were too busy to fix their own mistake and to match my clients request. I paid twice, complained to the manager who did nothing but make excuses for Jessica and agreed the result was not anything like the photo. They need NEW staff and  A NEW MANAGER, I shoot worldwide for clients use Sassoon in London, LA Chicago and , at five other locations around the world they are top notch, EXCEPT in Miami, not.on the same level, too bad..  Freida

Why is this important? Who cares. Everyone has gotten a bad haircut. Sorry your life is so awful that this is all you have to complain about. Get over yourself.

Marina333

I agree with @clarkalexanderb The color is awful and the haircut looks great! Seems to me you got what you were asking for as it looks very similar to "the girl with the dragon tattoo" you're a model that's obviously not good enough being that you can't even afford to pay for a haircut. Have no sympathy for you and shame on you for attempting to "ruin" this stylist career. Karma is a bitch. Quit crying, and stop blaming how unsuccessful you are on a haircut, perhaps you're not doing something right as a "model"

why is this news worthy? people PAY money for bad haircuts all the time. This was free. The stylist probably wanted to practice a new technique or haircut. complain but you don't need to completely defame a person publicly. That being said, this kim person could've been a little more modest about the whole situation.

A lot of that looks like poor color, I can see some blonde spots. She probably should have gotten professional color, looks a little "out of a box" color to me. Get over it.

oh my god thats assault. That is the worst hair cut I have ever seen and there are bald spots. You need to sue for loss of earnings , mental torture ,anxiety and anything more you can get out of that that is intentional assault. That is not a cut. thats assault.

OH MAN!! that's the ugliest haircut I've ever seen!! the stylist needs to get herself a new career. Bitch was in denial and fucked up that girls hair!

Awful haircut! You can even see where the scissors bluntly cut.leaving white spaces showing the scalp. It looks like crap.

And of course....she's a model like EVERYONE else in Miami....these two people deserved what they got...the stylist know it all and the inflated ego model : claps: Dragon tattoo haha don't get me started

Between the "model" and hair cut she received, it looks bad...she has thin hair already and she was given something that looks like an asymmetrical inverted pixie...I LOVE disconnections but even those styles need to be connected....I work for the hair industry and it's people like these that make me reevaluate the location I'm working in.....considering moving to another city where stylists are creative and down to earth....

I've been to Vidal Sassoon free cuts. I never had a problem. And, I've loved all of my haircuts but she does have a really bad hair cut. It is free. You can't expect much from a free haircut. I have no sympathy.

PinkDucky

Terrible haircut! I've been offered the before by this same salon to have my haircut for free and have heard some horror stories about terrible cuts and color. Doesn't matter that it was free or not, as a stylist you do not take free range with someones hair, after specifically emphasizing that its her profession. The stylist deserved to be called out like this.

Elisa oh no! Looks bad :( at least it'll grow back tho. That sucks!

It's a terrible cut. I've been a hair model. It's a huge gamble. Once I got a gorgeous cut by Yoshi Toya for Aveda, a bunch of free products and $150. Twice I got roto-tillered: once by Rita Rusk herself (for which I was never paid the $250 I was promised & no goody bag either) and once by - you guessed it: Vidal Sassoon. They dyed it chartreuse with blue spots & cut it asymmetrical with horrible angles & disconnects. It looked like an alien taxi can landed on my head. The last time I had my hair fucked up at a hair show, a) I went to the salon who sponsored it & insisted the senior cutter make me look like a normal human being & give me free cuts until it grew back to a decent length (which they did) & moreover b) it was the last hair modeling job I ever did. Take note ladies!

Vidal Sassoon would roll over in his grave. Regardless of whether its free, it should have been cut as discussed. You DON'T take creative license over someone's hair unless they've stated prior to the cut " do whatever you want" which was definitely not the case here.

Yaser , not sure if it's the coloring, but the fade is terrible. someone tell her to go to a Dominican barber, they'll fix her right up.

Just cause something is free doesn't mean the person cannot complain when it's awful and that hair is awful!  The sides are sooo short and uneven and the side burns whoaaa... poor chic too short to even fix :(

I would be more worried about that terrible tattoo, at least hair can grow back.

Vidal Sassoon in South Beach is a school, I worked at Vidal Sassoon in Beverly Hills, that was a Salon, the Academy in Santa Monica, Miami Salon is a school, as a hair stylist, previously working in south beach, had lots of models as clients, they get discounts, many times they don't have any money, it is terrible this girl, calling her self "model" is talking like this after she agree to let someone practice on her head. Students here are already license, they are just going to the Vidal Sassoon training to learn their style of cutting techniques.

She needs to get over it, hair grows back, she needs to go to a real salon and PAY PAY PAY Mrs Model, you don't deserve all for free, and you are not the center of the Universe

She shouldve went to Luxe Colour Lounge. I dont think that cut fits her at all and those sideburns :/

I've gotten my haircuts at Vidal Sasoon on the beach at least a dozen times as a hair model, paying $20. You can model for the traditional class or creative. Maybe she signed up for creative and didn't realize it. This story seems crazy and hardly news worthy. If your a model pay for your haircut. Anyway it doesn't even look bad. Your a model, work it!

...that's definitely not the same haircut from GWTDT. I should know, I wear it, and had been wearing the same hair for many years before the movie came out. All I can say is. Damn. At least hair grows?? And just don't go back to the same stylist...

This is why I drive to Ft. Meyers to get my super short hair cut. So hard to find someone in Miami to do that new asymmetrical pixie, it looks like a poor attempt. I'm so sorry for this girl, hair can be so important for a woman especially a performer. The good news is it WILL grow back and in the meantime, her performance can just be that much more awesomeness to focus on.

Marina333

I'm sure the only reason this is news worthy it's because she probably knows someone who could post this for her.

@ob1sfla  Seems she didn't stalk the Vidal cutter, it was quite the opposite.  Taking creative freedom doesn't work when people expect one thing and get another.
