Charlie Crist and His Wife Move Back to Fisher Island

Charlie Crist may be running on a "man of the people" platform, but that hasn't stopped him from moving to Florida's most expensive and exclusive zip code. Crist and his wife Carol Rome are apparently spending so much time in South Florida that they're now renting a condo on ritzy Fisher Island.

Rome had previously owned a condo on the island but sold it for $3 million in 2011.

Dubbed by Forbes magazine as America's "Millionaire Capital" in 2011, Fisher Island is consistently one of the most expensive zip codes in the entire country.

Crist himself has never owned property and has spent most of his adult life renting in a downtown St. Petersburg condo building. Though, since marrying Rome he upgraded from a one bedroom in the tower to a two bedroom a few floors up. Crist tells The Buzz that the couple rents that condo and is now splitting time between the two cities.

While the ritzy abode may put a bit of a crinkle in Crist's "People's Governor" image, it has nothing on Gov. Rick Scott's $9.2 million beachfront mansion over in Naples.

This doesn't make sense.  Consider, Charlie prides himself on being a "humble public servant" and "the people's governor", so why would he/they suddenly, in the beginning of a campaign where Charlie will of course ding Scott on his wealth, rent a place in one of the most expensive zip codes? Why would Charlie set himself up for that criticism - Charlie is definitely not an intellectual but he is a smart campaigner.  Charlie also loves being part of "the 'Burg"  and being close to his family. And, finally, this campaign is going to have Charlie all over the state attending fundraisers (not to mention out-of-state fundraisers) - to say they moved there because of the wealthy donors, well, most of those people go up north or Europe once summer sets in.

I wonder if Charlie and Carole have quietly separated? This is where Carole lived before Charlie so it makes sense she would go back there, instead of getting a place in the 'Burg.

Just the fact that he can afford to live on Fisher Island proves he not the people govenor. Just another rich conglomerate made for the the position.

As long as Crist governs well and creates jobs, who cares where he lives? Governing is no easy job...if he needs the exclusivity of Fisher Island to detach and decompress then so be it.

Yes - because the other choice is Rick Scott, right? Also, who cares where he lives as long as its in Florida? I think this is the least of his sins. Just about every politician at this level is wealthy, in just about every state you look it. Its rather lame to bring this up.
