Miami's First Marijuana School Could Open in April

Miamians hoping to take their careers to a higher level might get the chance as soon as next month. Medical marijuana may still be a pipe dream in Florida, but Jeremy Bufford, the founder of Medical Marijuana Tampa, says he's planning to open South Florida's first school aimed at teaching weed entrepreneurship.

Here's how the school will work: Students fork over $499 for about a month's worth of classes, which are either spaced out four days a week or consolidated into weekend classroom marathons.

If voters pass the medical marijuana amendment on the ballot in November, the only people who will be allowed to possess pot will be patients, treatment centers, and caregivers. Upon graduation, Medical Marijuana Miami students will become caretakers who are legally allowed to grow weed for five patients each. Anything extra they cultivate can be sold back to the school.

Bufford says caregivers have the ability to earn up to $100,000 each, but warns that Spicoli need not apply.

"We issue grades, we have homework, and you've gotta put some effort into this," Bufford says. "It's very different than putting a seed into the ground and watering it. This is medical marijuana, not something you would buy on the street."

Marijuana universities might be a foreign concept in the Sunshine State, but they've cropped up like fresh bud in states that have legalized the herb. If you think Bufford might be jumping the gun by opening a school in a place where marijuana is still illegal, take a look at Colorado. At least five institutions of higher learning existed there in 2010, which is two years before decriminalization passed with Amendment 64.

The 33-year-old Bufford, who has no scientific background, says that the education he'll provide is solid and that it has to be for his business to work.

"There's no substitute for book learning, and since they're going to be selling some of their product back to us, we have a huge stake in our students' ability to grow pot well," he says. Bufford also notes that his senior professor of cannabis was the valedictorian of Oaksterdam University, a grow school in Oakland, California.

Right now, Florida's pot pioneer is looking for a brick-and-mortar location in the Magic City, but if all else fails, online classes will be available next month.

As I said on tokeofthetown's website... It's already been said about this guy, he is a wannabe, a guy who clearly doesn't realize the laws being set in place, hasn't read the bill, and is trying to profit off of a market already set in south florida and most of florida. this guy is like a mom and pop store trying to go into the tobacco market, or someone from an illegal state going into california to try and teach people..... everyone in these areas already knows cannabis, only a foolish wannabe who hasn't studied would actually believe in this foolish wannabe guy and his lame overpriced school. People, read up online, there is gobs and gobs of online material for FREE, much better than this wannabe will be able to teach you. Mark, my, words. This guy is nothing but a wannabe in a sea of millionaries already running the biz under his big nose! Ovape pens, for example, is already set in Florida! Look it up, they are premade hash oil pens that people swap and buy just like the ecigs in every florida gas station!

If you're against knowledge and against the free use of a plant, without government interference and restriction...you are ignorant. You are a manipulated puppet. Plain and simple.

This is nonsense. Without a law passed there is no way anyone can say who will get a license or even where licenses will be issued, or even if there will be licensing. There are so many holes in this it's not even funny. Someone giving business advice would know better than to try and open a school at a location before telling the landlord what it is and getting the boot. 5 star expert? Are those gold stars? Are they sticky?

Angel Acevedo gotta keep your mind open to the changes of the world brother. Once marijuana becomes legalized throughout the world, it will become one of the biggest industries, not only for recreational use, but also medicinal and the countless uses hemp has. Also don't forget that god put that plant on this beautiful earth of ours.

Wow why the weed obsession lately? This is a stupid idea.

Yes! Let's all join together and stand up for Florida's Senior Citizens... I'm from Florida, and in November, 2014, voters can vote "yes on 2" for medical marijuana. But I'm not happy. I feel the President should legalize marijuana or cannabis in all 50 States. But the very best I can pray for is that our Governor Rick Scott will get Marijuana or cannabis legalized in Florida, now that banks can do business with pot. Florida will become the richest state in the USA, if it is legalized here. I can visualize tourism up 100% in the State of Florida. Everybody's heading to Colorado, but how many of you would take your vacation in Florida, if you could smoke some legally here? How many of you would move to Florida? We are sitting on a gold mine in Florida, and the redneck politicians don't get it. So let's say we are successful in getting 60% of the voters to say yes. They don't make people who drink alcohol to have a doctors slip. Make it legal...help our economy, help us. Take us out of the dark ages please. Thank you. Please tell our Governor to just Legalize it in Florida, 100%! https://www.facebook.com/scottforflorida

Andrew, that's because the tobacco industry and the government haven't wrapped their greedy hands around it yet. Give it time....

I love that the laws aren't even passed yet and we are already preparing for this. If it was anything else...we would be late as fuck getting ready!

Quite ignorant of a comment --- society is already doing these, you just don't see it in the open becuse its not legal (well, in miami, ive seen dozens of stoners on the beach). You are simply ignorant. Millions of americans VAPORIZE it, and use clean brownies to get a non-harmful buzz and calm down after a day at work, lookt it up. Safer than alcohol, even people stoned driving are ALL AROUND YOU, you just dont see the wrecks because stoned people can actually function, unlike pillheads and boozheads who kill others on a weekly basis!

Because of the facts coming out. Oh, did you know there is more than 2 marijuana patents owned by the US Governemnt and Department of Health (word for word owners on the patents). It all claims that cannabis helps heal the body in many ways. Yet ignorant non-users like you have been misinformed your ENTIRE LIFE and will never listen to younger people inform you about something you are truly ignorant about. Will you listen to the facts, or continue on being ignorant?
