Coral Reef Senior High Teacher Banned From Obama Speech for Social Media Posts

Randall Scott says his First Amendment rights were taken away because of his social media posts.
Coral Reef Senior High Principal Adrianne Leal asked her teachers not to post anything on social media before President Obama visited her school last Friday. But for history teacher Randall Scott, holding back was not an option. The birther, who calls himself a "Republican Extremist," wasn't about to self-censor. This refusal to cooperate with his boss' request caused the Secret Service to ban him from Obama's speech, he says, and embarrass himself in front of his students.

The 15-year Miami-Dade County Public Schools veteran has Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts that exist almost solely to pan the president. Some of his remarks are juvenile and harmless, such as the ones in which he refers to Obama as the "bogus POTUS."

Other messages have a little more attitude. One recent Instagram upload is a CNN image of Russian tanks in the Ukraine, accompanied by the caption "Almost makes me want to be Russian. I guess their leaders have balls." He follows with his favorite saying: "Obama is a PUSSY."

"Turdman"
(Still others by the 54-year-old married radical are simply uncomfortable. For instance, there's "Chili cheese fries are better than sex. @ TELLING IT LIKE IT IS.")

According to subsequent social media postings by Scott, who teaches Advanced Placement American and European History at Coral Reef, he was stopped while leading his students to the auditorium and told that the Secret Service was banning him from the event.

Who could forget this classic part of European history?
He sat in his classroom alone. Later, he wrote a letter to Marco Rubio and "every cool person at Fox News" asking for help.

"This to me appears as a puerile attempt to discredit or embarrass me, quite possibly by school administrators, the Secret Service, or the President," the letter reads. "It may have been one or all, but to be excluded for one's political views seems rather UN-American." (Scott could not be reached by phone this morning.)

Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials say they're reviewing Scott's case but claim there was nothing personal (or political) about his exclusion.

"The size and setup of the event venue did not permit all of the school's staff and students to attend, and local administrators were required to decide who would attend to represent the school," spokesman John Schuster told a reporter at Local 10.

Why is he so upset when he doesn't like the President in the first place? Shouldn't he be glad he didn't have to attend the event? #loser

I have no patience for deliberate idiots such as Scott who claim that "free speech" means "free from consequences".

How would *he* react if one of his students spoke to *him* in the same manor & then said that he was just exorcising his right to free speech & therefore was protected from any sort of punishment? Scott apparently thinks you can spew any sort of hate speech (& that's what this is) & others are actually obligated to reward you for it with the privilege of being included in highly public events. Of course the school did not include him! He would most likely create a scene & make a huge, very public spectacle of himself & embarrass the whole school district ! He reminds me of the "Drunk Uncle" from SNL who no one wants to sit next to at family functions. He actually has the nerve to be insulted that he wasn't invited? Would *you* want him at *your* house or party or representing you in any way?

Listen up ... because I KNOW ... I did POTUS Staff Advance for YEARS for The White House. The Secret Service had NOTHING to do with not admitting this man to the event.... I repeat the Secret Service had NOTHING to do with not admitting this man to the event...this was said to deflect responsibility. That is NOT USSS's role with these events whatsoever. This was probably a decision made by some weaselly Obama staff member..... I can guarantee that the Obama staff told the principal to not allow this person to attend plan and simple. The Obama staffers determine who attends...not the Secret Service (unless of course there is some physical threat....the Secret Service does NOT get involved in nonsensical political views - many agents are republican, many agents are democrats, most think political jokes are funny).

Funny thing is the "academic freedom" he is demanding to be respected exist due to the UTD contract. That said, 99% chance he's not a member. He could have easilly filed a greivance.

this is too funny. Scott is MY TEACHER at coral reef and although he has strong political views, he doesn't force them down our throats. I myself am a liberal and his views have not affected mine in anyway. Its actually quite funny when he goes on rants about Obama. All hew was mad about was that they wouldn't allow him the choice to go or not. Even though he had no desire to go, he wanted it to be his choice. And it turned out that the secret service or Obama had nothing to do with it, it was completely the school administrations decision. The school states that they could only allow a certain amount of people to go, but he showed us his name in class today on a list of people permitted to go. Nuff said

It's ridiculous to claim he was banned due to lack of space. He was obviously banned for political reasons! That said; GOOD!!! He's a fucking idiot! Those parents should pull their kids from his class!

Well, I'm sure being 'banned" from an Obama event is probably a badge of honor in certain circles. Me? I'm indifferent either way. I happen to believe there's no particular honor in meeting a President. If I recall my Constitutional Law classes with any detail, he or she WORKS FOR US. So why would I get excited about meeting a temporary employee? :)

Who would want to attend the event anyway, they'll disrupt traffic to gridlock (not that it isn't that already, but a couple/several more hours ?) to bring a POTUS to deliver a pep rally speech ? What are we paying for as taxpayers ? And even more important, why are we paying for this ?

The Tea Party and other extremists are destroying the GOP, and
permanently stripping it of any credibility in the minds of thinking
people. In 10 years time, provided they don't get us all killed, we'll
be wondering how anyone could ever buy such a bill of spoiled goods.

A party so dead the Mormons baptized it

The sad thought is how this man probably distorts the History of America to conform to his beliefs in his teachings. He obviously has a very distorted perspective that I would not be happy if my child had to endure.

Please! I would have certainly banned him from attending! If I was Secret Service, I wouldn't want some idiot hackling the president at some random school. If it is a debate or a press event, then all views should be welcomed, but at an event like this? Give me a break. And let's not mention the quality of the teachers we have...

A "Republican Extremist" who works for the county and will get a pension for the rest of his life. Is that what he considers "small government"?

How is this guy a high school HISTORY TEACHER with such EXTREME Political VIEWS and inappropriate Social Media Behavior. He should be fired.

Obama2014

@johndoe3443  Teachers in general should always present both sides fairly, especially when it comes to personal views, in regards to politics, religion, etc. He should never over exert his own bias when students should be allowed to formulate their own opinions. I am glad you are able to come to your own political view, but more often than not, other students in the classroom may be pressured to feel the same way with respect to their teachers who influences their way of thinking.

@johndoe3443  Him using the swastika to attack people he disagrees with politically and him being a history teacher do not go well with each other. You say it's funny he goes into Obama Rants during class? Shouldnt he be...I dont know.. TEACHING and not going crazy during class? What a effing disgrace. And by the way, if the dude likes chilli fries more than sex, I feel sorry for his wife. He already looks like a serial killer, acts like one, and then he makes comments like that?  Seriously, all teachers should get an annual review of their social media to weed out the crazies.

Well, this is only one guy, as opposed to the pervasive Liberal brainwashing and distortion of history and facts. One guy cannot compare to the constant attack on traditional values that almost every one of our children has to endure in our public schools.

@Exiliado  Some weird mentality you have there cubanito. People who work for the government are normally democrats because republicans are always trying to screw them. This guy, is a psycho. That much is given. One of his students posted here that he goes on "obama rants" during class, but this guy is also a hypocrite. He will collect the pension that others fought for HIM and then he will go in his little blog and attack them.
