Florida Sheriffs Association Comes Out Against Medical Marijuana: #DontLetFlGoToPot

Never expect a cop to be cool about a little bit of pot.

The Florida Sheriffs Association has officially taken a stance on medical marijuana. They're against it. Because you know, it's common practice for sheriffs to take stances on what kind of medical treatment people should be allowed to pursue.

They've even come up with a hashtag to go along with their campaign: #DontLetFlGotoPot. Hip, guys. Real hip. Predictably, almost no one on Twitter is using it.

"We have an obligation to educate our constituents and the people we've sworn to protect," FSA President Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel. "How they vote is their decisions, and we'll abide by their decisions. But we would be remiss by not pointing out that this amendment would allow teenagers to obtain medical marijuana; this amendment allows caregivers with the only restriction that they're 21 years of age. They themselves can be dug dealers, convicted felons or your next-door neighbors."

The group also says that 63 of 67 of its members oppose legalizing marijuana in any form.

The FSA is working to partner with other anti-marijuana groups to present a united fight against efforts to legalize medical marijuana. Floridians will get to decide the issue for themselves in November through a constitutional amendment.

Recent polls show that more than 70 percent of Floridians support the amendment, well above the 60 percent it would need to pass.

Though, the FSA fears a repeat of the problems caused by loopholes that made the state a paradise for those seeking easy prescriptions for prescription painkillers.

This Sheriff JackAss "barney JUDD Fife"  is putting together this without approval of FLORIDA Tax payers to to use TAX PAYER money to continue "Don't Let Florida Go To Pot" coalition. He will be spending several thousands of Florida taxpayer dollars for a misleading cause. He is trying to confuse Floridian voters. I hope all his family members get cancer or a debilitating diseases to open up his eyes. Stop wasting Tax payer dollars and start arresting criminals. Concentrate on what you get payed for JUDD.....Donte waste TAX PAYERS money. Every day, it becomes more difficult to deny the benefits of medical marijuana. Ask anyone who’s used it for pain management relating to a life-altering illness – Cancer, AIDS, Glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, and Crohn’s disease, among others – and they’ll tell you how it’s changed their lives.

so repubs are against big govt...but they love big corporations, and apparently want this industry to be dominated by only the super wealthy and connected corporations as indicated by their language and proposed amendments to this bill. red tape and bureaucracy all the way with this bill. don't get me wrong I am thrilled that this made it thru for those suffering with intractable seizures. but it made it thru for the wrong reasons. its a super conservative bill that is attempted to set framework for amendment 2 that is a republican legislators nightmare. this is their effort to curb that constitutional amendment and turn florida medical marijuana into new jersey, where those needing this treatment have so many blocks to accessing it that less than 500 have received patient cards. Florida legislators are also apparently physicians, as they know what type of cannabis is needed and for what illnesses or diseases. so sad that florida legislators wont look at how medical marijuana was regulated in Colorado or if they are or claim they are they are definitely not giving it much credit. Florida's DOH estimates over 250,000 people that have debilitating diseases that would qualify under proposed amendment 2. so we are going to ignore those, but say its ok for children with epilepsy....how backwards are we? and to say leave it to the FDA first...are you serious?!? isn't that contradictory to passing low-thc vs. reg. medical marijuana, is there so much more research on low-thc vs. reg.?! how many foods/drinks/drugs has the FDA approved that has known adverse implications to humans! Or has even directly caused death! how many previously FDA approved drugs have been shown to directly cause death and then yanked from the shelves or faced class action lawsuits?! why do these drugs get the FDA stamp from big pharm? Money, money, money, connections, and money. Of course this isn't a blanket for all or even for most. but put it up next to a plant. a plant. a plant that grows on earth. that isn't manufactured in a lab. that doesn't kill people. leave it to the consumer, leave it to the patients, leave it to the families to decide what meds they want to use, what food, drink and drugs they want to consume if it isn't causing harm to others. for politicians to say what is and isn't toxic, what is and isn't morally right or wrong, for politicians to stifle small businesses and to effectively have an entire industry controlled by 4 organizations is so wrong on so many levels and epitomizes the problem we have in Tallahassee. this "do as I say" mentality has got to change if we don't want to be a laughing stock. We want to let people walk around with unlicensed weapons during states of emergency, we want to be able to kill people by "standing our ground" but we want to thwart medical treatment of an innocuous drug. what a joke. nearly half of the states have approved med marijuana but here comes Florida saying "wait, no, more research, we're not ready, the people don't know whats good for them!!!!" Read between the lines folks, this conservative bill isn't any indication of passion, its an attempt to curb what is coming in November. What I don't understand is why are they sooooo terrified? aren't there much larger problems in this state? I guess their answer to that is to grab as many guns as possible, lol. In all seriousness though, more needs to be done for the over quarter million that suffer from debilitating conditions that simply will not be helped by low-thc oil form cannabis. get off your butts and take a look at the other bills that have been sitting on the shelves since February (SB0962 and HB0859) and have them reviewed in the subcommittees. why haven't they been read?! I guess cancer, HIV, Parkinson's, etc. aren't as significant as epilepsy...

"Oh no! How am I supposed to make a traffic stop for going 5 mph over the limit into a big jackpot for my force if I can't bust that 18 year old kid for having a joint!" Hypocrites. "There's no medical benefit to marijuana" then they turn around and say they're pleased Charlotte's Web is now available. Fkm. Vote in November, and bring all your friends to the polls with you. New Times better publicize this election like it were some EDM festival.

Feds Raid Marijuana Dispensaries in Colorado

Denver -- The largest federal raids ever of Colorado's medical-marijuana industry culminated Monday in the indictment of four people on accusations they funneled and laundered hundreds of thousands of dollars from Colombia to buy a Denver warehouse.

The allegations in the case, detailed for the first time Monday, paint a picture of international money transfers, a marijuana dispensary owner on the lam, high-dollar cultivation facilities, and a car trunk full of cash. If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced to decades in prison.

"This is a money-laundering case," Jeffrey Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Colorado, said after a court hearing Monday.

Named in the indictment are brothers Luis and Gerardo Uribe, 28 and 33, respectively; attorney David Furtado, 48; and Colombian citizen Hector Diaz, 49. Both Uribes and Furtado were among the owners of the more than a dozen medical-marijuana businesses that Drug Enforcement Administration and Internal Revenue Service.

Furtado and Luis Uribe made a brief court appearance Monday wearing the gray T-shirts and casual slacks they were apparently wearing when they were arrested Friday. Neither spoke during the hearing, other than to tell federal magistrate judge Boyd Boland that they understood their rights. They were ordered held without bond until Thursday, when prosecutors will say whether they want to hold the pair longer.

"Medical" Marijuana in Colorado was a gigantic FRAUD and SHAM exploited by RECREATIONAL STONERS who simply wanted to get high, while pretending to suffer from a "debilitating medical condition".

With the exception of the illegal transfer of cannabis  to minors  or the  public risked of impairment,  marijuana  should not even be a police issue.   Why on earth should cops have any say in the matter of how one cures one self.

I wonder if the Florida Sheriffs Association actually thinks medical marijuana is dangerous, OR if they're scared of losing OVERTIME?

Joseph Degli Actually...I'm not talking about amount of blacks that smoke, I'm talking about the amount that have been placed in jail, which is a much higher percentage

Joseph Degli

Alex Henderson I'm gonna go with the probability that more white people smoke pot than black people, granted the police have nothing better to do than to waste their time and taxpayer money on things like this, but people forget we still live in a Bible Belt state, so come November don't be surprised if it doesn't pass, didn't pass in Colorado or Cali the first go round, that being said, let's invest in some property in psl for when it does the next time in 2016.

Well someone has to stand up for the rights of .... Well I mean....I guess they....who are we kidding, they really don't like black people and they are worried they won't have reasons to put them in jail with out weed, sometimes this world is a sad place

“Don’t Let Florida Go To Pot” "

Seriously? Florida is the pill mill of North America and the state eats as much oxycontin as all other states combined. Prescription deaths are through the roof down there and these guys are dinking around with silly silly grass? On who's dime?

At what point are they just immoral men 'just doing our job'?

This is MEDICAL grass anyway.. Florida is an aging state full of elders, a great many of whom would really rather prefer eating marijuana for their arthritis and other ailments rather than liver killing expensive pills with more side effects than the problems they cure.

These police need to worry about actually making a difference in their communities rather than try and micro manage one small segment of it.

Prohibition on such a common easy to grow agricultural product (a weed) didn't work 'then' and it doesn't work 'now'. PERIOD. Trying to micromanage other peoples use of marijuana is the errand of fools, and an expensive one at that.

DonkeyHotay

Vote against them.  Jury nullification.  Defund the militarization of our police.  Get everybody to the polls.  Question their abuse of power.  Get the politicians out of politics.  One term and done.  Be aware that the way they've gained a lot of their power is by using the 'fear button' to get their way.
