Jeb Bush Is "Thinking About" Presidential Run but Might Have Too Many Shady Business Ties

Categories: Politicks

Jeb Bush's head must be pounding from all the pondering he's doing these days. Yesterday, he told yet another GOP crowd that he hasn't ruled out a bid for the White House, this time eliciting an ovation by announcing he's "thinking about running for president."

He's probably also doing a lot of contemplating over how his opponents will slime him for all the shady business dealings he's gotten wrapped up in since leaving Tallahassee. As the New York Times detailed last weekend, Bush has left a long trail of unsavory deals behind him while working to build his fortune after leaving politics.

Bush's latest hint about his presidential ambitions came Wednesday at a Catholic Charities fundraiser in New York, where the "room went wild," according to Politico, after he left the door open to a campaign. (He also quipped, "Would you call and tell my mom?" in reference to Barbara Bush's belief that her family has had enough shots at running the nation already.)

But it's the Times' in-depth weekend piece that gives one of the best hints at why -- despite all the pressure from GOP financial backers alarmed by the power vacuum atop their ticket -- many experts still believe Bush won't throw his hat into the ring.

After his final term as Florida's governor, Jeb made no secret he wanted to expand his $1.3 million personal wealth. Doing so, however, has led him to some particularly slimy corners of the financial world while earning more than $3 million in board compensation.

Among the deals the Times dredged up were Jeb's work trying to pull in last-minute investors for the disgraced Lehman Brothers just before its epic collapse, and sitting on the board of Swisher Hygiene at the same time -- the firm later admitted -- that sketchy accounting was improperly inflating its earnings. (That work has earned Bush a spot on a number of lawsuits by burned investors.)

He also worked on the board of InnoVida, the Miami-based firm that was actually a $50 million scheme that earned owner Claudio Osorio 12 years in prison.

Other dealings are likely to spark political headaches, such as his work for Tenet Health Care at the same time the hospital giant was supporting the passage of Obamacare.

Jeb has promised to make a call one way or another on a presidential campaign by the end of this year.

if romney had money in switZerland to keep it cool and may in fact be on the UBS list of tax-evaders even this data is small potatoes to JEB!

his daughter must be into the millions since in crack cocaine purchases

his wife was about to be convicted of purchasing and importing a million dollars of haute-couture french dresses BUT lying on the import duty tax forms to EVADE paying import duty tax due and would have served time in jail for purjury BUT the bushies must have passed the hat and raised the $250,ooo to pay the taxes !

JEB! as florida govenator was the self-professed "education governor",  and he was,  if you compare ALABAMA and MISSISSIPPI to florida, but ALL other states, including EVEN KENTUCKY pass florida as educational leaders (to be fair, WE DO HAVE a lot of idiots here)

how many secret YALE "skull and bones" toga parties has JEB! since attended ?

how many private trips has he made to saudi arabia to kiss their camel asses ?

He was, IIRC, the only person elected to the governorship of Florida under an assumed name. His given name...John Ellis Bush. His alias, if you will, was Jeb.

After what they did to us with the 2008/2009 economy crash, REPUBLICANS SHOULD SHUT THEIR MOUTHS, AT LEAST FOR 20 YEARS.

Phil Ramirez...You seem to think that I'm a Republican.... And that's a negative ghost writer..... Politicians are all crooks and only look out for their paid interest..... Its just funny that Miami New Times never really wants to expose the liberal left as they always have their aim at the Republicans.....

C'mon Bolaños... What's good to say about republicans hustling their interests, at the people's expense?!

As if the Clintons didn't have shady business deals.... Miami New Times again shows its true colors of not being able to report down the middle.... I wonder if they will report the same when Hilary runs for office.... It would just be better for you guys to come out and say you are a liberal publication of political news..... Here's a tip...... Stick to reporting about bars/clubs/restaurants in the South Florida area because that's what you are really good at doing....

Everyone should read the book, "A Family Of Secrets" by Rush Baker.

the bush family= Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

People are sick of the Bush family brand and the world is moving away from them.

ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush authorized the sale to Iraq of numerous items that had both military and civilian applications, including poisonous chemicals and deadly biological viruses, such as anthrax and bubonic plague.”

As is widely reported, Hussein used these chemical weapons against Iranians in the Iran-Iraq war.

After the 1991 Gulf War, U.N. inspectors “compiled long lists of chemicals, missile components, and computers from American suppliers, including such household names as Union Carbide and Honeywell, which were being used for military purposes” in Iraq.

George W. Bush

A study’s conclusions were further reinforced when former Bush White House press secretary Scott McClellan wrote, “top Bush aides had outlined a strategy for carefully orchestrating the coming campaign to aggressively sell the war… In the permanent campaign era, it was all about manipulating sources of public opinion to the president’s advantage.”

According to the study, then President George W Bush made 232 false statements about Iraq and former leader Saddam Hussein’s possessing weapons of mass destruction, and 28 false statements about Iraq’s links to al Qaeda.

“President George W. Bush and seven of his administration’s top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq…

On at least 532 separate occasions, Bush and these three key officials, along with Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan, stated unequivocally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (or was trying to produce or obtain them), links to Al Qaeda, or both.”

On July 2004, the Republican majority led Senate Select Committee released the Intelligence Senate Report on Iraqi WMD Intelligence, which identified numerous failures in intelligence gathering and “analysis” (i.e., interpretation). However, Republicans defended the Bush administration’s statements on Iraq.

An investigation into the administration’s use of the intelligence was delayed for three years due to Republicans claiming it wasn’t as important (Senator Roberts, R-KS) as other pending items. Phase two of the investigation was released in 2007, but not all of the report was released. It determined, “our Committee has concluded that the Administration made significant claims that were not supported by the intelligence.”

There was no al Qaeda in Iraq before your invasion. Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein were mortal enemies.

In 2006, while Bush was still president, a National Intelligence Estimate found that the war in Iraq increased Islamic radicalism and worsened the terror threat to the United States. Last March, the New York Times looked back on the 10 years in Iraq since Bush invaded with promises of fighting terrorism and bringing a model of democracy that would serve as a beacon for the rest of the Middle East. The paper reported, “The most depressing measure of the failure may lie in the voices of ordinary Iraqis who tell reporters that they wish Iraq could return to the way it was under Saddam, for all its miseries.”

Dick Cheney had a different view of invading Iraq in 1994, as evident in this discussion of the first Iraq war, a war where he was the Secretary
of Defense.

After you take down Saddam Hussain's government, he asks, "then what are you gonna put in its place? That's a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government in Iraq, you can easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off... it's a quagmire ... if you try to take over Iraq... How many additional American causalities was Saddam worth? Our judgment was not very many, and I think we got it right."

Cheney's Halliburton Made $39.5 Billion on Iraq War

According to the bipartisan Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan, the level of corruption by defense contractors may be as high as $60 billion. Disciplined soldiers that would traditionally do many of the tasks are commissioned by private and publicly listed companies.

no more buSHIT please

Exactly what did the Republicans do in your mind that caused the crash?

How has Obama's policies done anything but to slow the rate of recovery?

......................the CLINTONs have no such old family wealth like the BUSH family and are simply slick production shows that many many people will vote for = period

BILL is a YALE-educated cracker with POWERful connections and his womanizing makes him a BIG HIT in european circles as well

HILLARY is a stand-by-your-man intelligent dowdy-looking bookish unpricipled shark who has become very adept at building an unassailable public image

otherwise why blame NEWTIMES when JEB! is being evasive and coy - blame JEB! for playing politics and leaving everyone in the media to guess about his status

.................they ALL have shady deals - after all they are politicians - right ?

however the whole BUSH FAMILY dynastic wealth is based on SAUDI OIL with various meddle east deals through bush family owned enterprises including zapata oil and others

it may be why OSAMA BIN LADEN was not properly pursued by dubbya - it would have been prosecuting one of the SONs of the richest and most influential non-royal saudi family and why other BIN LADENs in america on 9/11 were given diplomatic escorts back to saudi arabia

the BIN LADENs are a significant part of BUSH family wealth

frankd4 topcommenter far as the STOCK MARKET INDEX called the dow jones industrials is a measure when DUBBYA LEFT office the dow was at 6, after SIX YEARS OF OBAMA the dow is at 16,500 (and climbing)

that is an INCREASE of 9,600 points or one-hundred and forty percent (140%) increase under OBAMA !

oBaMa "policy" to bail out GM got him reelected as O H I O was the swing-state in the 2012 election - so important, in fact,  mittens went full out and LIED that JEEP jobs were moving to CHINA (in fact even JEEP executive denied this and since - it did NOT happen - so mittens did prove to be a desperate liar ! )
